Gekko_Dekko: question to people who bought it. Store lists this game to have online multiplayer - does it require galaxy for this purpouse, or direct ip/lan is an option?
avatar
RainbowDragon: I have not (yet) bought it but under system requirements you will find this note:
Other: GOG Galaxy required for Multiplayer
wasnt there when I've made my question. Well, it sucks. Coz that means no online multiplayer for linux (they've planned to make a port), if even linux port on GoG

RainbowDragon: [...]For me the game is partly crippled because multi player options are bound to galaxy and therefore I may buy it later at 80 % discount for the single player part only....

Carradice: Does this means that Galaxy needs to be connected to internet in order to play in a LAN? (If that is the case, it is crazy. Why?)
I am afraid that is exactly what it means :-(!

You might be sitting in the same room with one or more other players and their PCs and still everyone has to connect to the internet and have galaxy installed and running to play a LAN game! And they call themselves a "always DRM-free" store...

All that big data from handling all the multiplayer games must be worth $$ eventually for many people, starting with publishing companies... Too bad that GOG forces that on its customers. Not happy at all with that.

This game is yet another in this multiplayer DRM vein. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who is bothered by this. It's completely horrendous. GOG's other site, FCKDRM.com, talks about how consumers shouldn't have to rely on an internet connection or a company for authentication. Then they keep pushing the Galaxy client, either oblivious or willfully ignorant of that. What a mixed message to the customer!!

And before any shills or fanboys come to try and defend how the game is still "DRM-free, for singleplayer" or how "the developers didn't put in LAN, that's why it's not there"...the fact of the matter is that GOG as a DRM-free store should not be accepting games that aren't DRM-free. The standard on FCKDRM.com is "100% DRM-free" as far as I can see. DRMed (or effectively DRMed) multiplayer is not that.
