Classic lovers rejoice!

We are incredibly happy and excited to announce that Empire of the Ants, an extremely unique RTS and simulation title originally released on PC in 2000, is now available on GOG! Moreover, until April 21st, 1 PM UTC, you can get it with a -15% launch discount.

Based on the bestseller book of the same name by Bernard Werber and created by Microids, Empire of the Ants (2000) offers one of a kind experience of becoming the leader of an ant colony who must feed its workers, expand it, and protect the queen at all costs.

The gameplay in Empire of the Ants revolves around resource management, expansion, and combat. You start with a small group of ants and must collect resources such as food, wood, and stone to expand your colony. You can also assign different tasks to your ants, such as foraging, construction, and fighting. Additionally, this classic gem features a variety of ant species, each with their own unique abilities and roles within the colony, which adds to its strategic depth.

What made Empire of the Ants stand out all those years ago was most of all its unique perspective, allowing us to experience the world from the viewpoint of these very familiar insects. The game provides a detailed simulation of ant behavior and colony management, which can be both educational and incredibly entertaining.

But Empire of the Ants isn’t just an RTS title. It also features an engaging storyline with a campaign mode that includes various missions and objectives, adding a sense of progression and accomplishment. It is filled with detailed environments and ant animations that add to the already very immersive experience. And with multiplayer options, allowing up to 8 players to compete against each other or cooperate in building and managing ant colonies, the fun becomes even greater.

So whether you’re a classic games’ lover, strategy title enthusiast, nature simulation fan, or all of them together – it is an absolute must-have.

It’s high time to lead your ants to victory and secure the growth of your colony. Empire of the Ants, now on GOG!

DoomSooth: Thanks. I asked about the manual for another reason. It wasn't so I could complain. I already have the manual in English and French, so there'd be no need for me to complain.
avatar
Atlo: That might me too much to ask but would you care to upload said manual somewhere and post the link here: https://www.gog.com/forum/general/list_of_gog_games_with_missing_manuals_and_where_to_find_them_1 ?

Alternatively - somehow send me (e-mail?) and I'll try to figure out how and where to do the uploading ?

[EDIT]: I just realized you probably have said manual in paper! Nevermind then.
In the game folder there should be a manual.pdf.

I looked at the entry of gogdb here:

https://www.gogdb.org/product/1463618755/build/56357578077130469

https://www.gogdb.org/manifest/f246163fc5bc9018b20d25f02fc0498e

In the manifest there is a manual.pdf listed.

I only looked under extras not the install folder. So if the manual is in the install folder, then I'm wrong about it not having one.

Edit: Yup, I was wrong about it not having the Manual.

How well does this version of the game perform on modern hardware? I remember it being a buggy even back back in the day, with several crashes and other issues.

Dohi64: how is a clone of simant extremely unique? not to mention unique already means it's one of a kind, it can't be extremely that even if it was true.

and of course, simant when? might break my not buying anything from you until you fix your fucking store streak.
Empire of the Ants has more in common with Starcraft than it does with Simant.

I'd be curios to see how the game sells on GOG compared to other platforms, but I have a feeling older games do well here.

Time to do the ol' antling rush then.

Syphon72: You do love jumping to ZOOM defense and arguing with Foad01. Sure you don't have some kind of affiliation with ZOOM? You are coming to GOG forums to defend them. Anyways, Foad01 did not even mention ZOOM and one of the blues asked us to stay on topic.

To answer your question, there seems to be no manual included. Now you can go on ZOOM discord to complained about GOG not adding the manual. :)
Tribalism amongst DRM-Free stores is always silly. Are there achievements in Empire of Ants? No? Then there is no difference between buying a DRM-Free game on GOG vs Zoom vs Humble-Bundle, vs Itch.io or whatever other DRM-Free store might be out there.

There may be a little sense when people argue about Steam vs Epic, but when you buy a DRM-Free game, the point is to have separation from the store, like in the good old CD days. Who cares where you buy it from, as long as it works? Zoom is not the enemy here. Steam, Epic, Windows Store, EA Store, Ubisoft Connect store, etc, they are the enemies due to their use of DRM.

As for the person in question, they literally are calling zoom-related comments spam in their profile and then posted a comment telling people to stop spamming. Do you really not see how that is meant as a taunt?

As for the manual, GOG should put that up as a separate download, as is tradition here, as opposed to placing it in the game directory. This is not Steam and we should not have terrible Steam practices on here.

I am not fighting, I am literally saying that fighting (amongst various DRM-Free store and their fans fans) is pointless.

I am also on topic, since I said that Empire of Ants manual should be downloadable separately on GOG, rather than placed in game's install directory.

Just wanted to point out ZP see GOG as the enemy. This is a fact.

I've never heard of this game yet somehow it seems interesting to me.
Good news. Microid has confirmed that they are working on adding the French language to the game. (I guess they will also take the opportunity to add the other languages but I have no confirmation). I got the information from their Discord =)
Unfortunately both the Zoom release and the GoG release don't really work on modern hardware despite the best attempts to use DirectX wrappers and such.
