Graphic novels can be pretty graphic.

Noctropolis, a FMV adventure game about living out your comic book nightmares, is available now DRM-free on GOG.com with GOG Galaxy achievements and a 50% launch discount.

It's closing time at the bookstore. In the dimly-lit room, a strange figure lurks crouched on the creaky floor. It's the owner, Peter Grey. Suddenly, he leaps over the counter, dashes across the room, then throws a hefty cooking tome on an unsuspecting table lamp. BANG! The store goes completely dark - another successful mission for "Darksheer". But when Peter gets magically sucked inside his hero's comic-book world, he quickly realises darkness can be as perilous as it is alluring.

The legendary Darksheer has gone missing and now Peter must don the cape of his idol and clean up the everdark streets of Noctropolis in his place. For in the persistent shadows an evil plot is unfolding, threatening to consume this city of eternal darkness. Thankfully, what Peter lacks in KAPOW! he makes up for in *lightbulb* as he sets out to point, click, and talk his way to the truth. And maybe, eventually, back to the real world.

This version of the game comes with improved mouse and keyboard support, gameplay enhancements which remove dead-ends, plus numerous technical fixes. It also includes a remastered in-game soundtrack and a downloadable copy of the original Comic Book!

Open the latest issue and venture into the ominous streets of Noctropolis, DRM-free on GOG.com. The 50% discount will last until January 26, 1:59 PM GMT.
Looks very intriguing. Instabought, too!
high rated
So good to see this here at last!
But too bad it doesn't include the original - I wonder if that's a rights issue or a trend; if the latter, can't say I like it.

Shame on you!
Adventure classic from the 90q, oh yeah, instabought! Glad to see Noctropolis on Gog now as well. More games like this please!
Woops, I've never seen this one before. Nice surprise GOG!

drealmer7: ONE OF THE BEST ADVENTURE GAMES EVER

Darvond: That I've never heard of or seen discussed in my 10+ years on the internet right until GOG suddenly released it?
Wow! A young one! But your logic is fallable. Just because you haven't heard of it, doesn't mean shit, honestly. Ever heard of the movie Until the End of the World? If not, it doesn't mean it isn't ONE OF THE BEST MOVIES EVER!

Like I said previously. I think it is simply marketing. Tex Murphy games, Phantasmagoria, and the LA and Sierra titles that are so abundant simply get more word of mouth and exposure because of marketing and the general fan base.

Anyway, are there more actual questions you have about it?

If you like adventure games that are a bit challenging (medium-hard difficulty) and aren't simply walkthrough-pictures games (Syberia) , if you like some dark themes with some B-quality qualities, then this game is a must-play.

I never heard about it before and I don't know what to think ?!
I'm not convinced by the trailer : / I will keep an eye on it later.

Well considering that I was four when this game came out...

Curiosity piqued. Wishlisted for now. Going through Tex Murphy games right now.

Fairfox: Plus it's not actually that good. I mean it's okay, and certainly welcome here, but I purrrsonally can't agree with all the up-ratings from people it's getting, no no no no no no nah nope nup. If it's better than Phantasmagoria, and it's debatable, that's honestly not much of a compliment considering that's a kinda failtron as a point 'n' click too.

But yo, opinions are everywhere!
Phantasmagoria I only recall from the Retsupray of it. Looking back, it's amazing that FMV games were even accepted, what with the hokey acting, laughable reactions, and more issues when compared to the crisp graphics of games like Monkey Island. At least with Polygons in the Dark, I can understand because those were Edge of the Art, Cutting State graphics. Ečstatica, I understand less.

I know, I know... :P

eiii: This is a nice game. But it's sad to see another release which screws up old compatibilities and they do not even deliver the original version as an add-on.
avatar
gamesfreak64: old compatibilities ? Well i just bought it, so lets hope the games runs without any crashing or bugs
And does the game still work under DOS? ;)
avatar
haleyjd: A few words (I was the dev on this for NDS):
Yes, this is a native build of the game. It was ported from the original assembly code into modern C++ and redone to render through OpenGL. It's very portable and Mac & Linux builds have been a goal since the get-go but our resources are thin. I was on the Turok project from September to January, hence the delay getting this out.

As far as things changed from the DOS version, there's really only one game play situation that was altered, and since speculation has continued to buzz around it since the original launch, I'll go ahead and explain what it was.
Games from the early 90th are my general favorites because they already deliver good (enough) graphics and still run under DOS(box). Seeing such a game screwed up by a remake which breaks the DOS compatibility and probably makes the original version of the game (legally) inaccessible really hurts.
I can understand when you prefer to work with more modern tools. Nevertheless I would have preferred when the remaining bugs would have been fixed in the original DOS version. But that probably won't happen, unfortunately.

Could you please at least also provide the original DOS version together with the remade version of the game?

Grargar: While the OST isn't available as an extra, it can be located in the game's installation folder.
The essential bits of the soundtrack anyway. I'll certainly be thinking about it.
