zeffyr: You're very welcome to join us, please send me a message and I'll try my best to explain the rules :-)
JankoWeber: The security settings of my internet browser prevent
messages, chats and some more here at GOG.
Although some people have tried to explain details to me,
this thread now raises more questions for me
than it answers...
How does the Secret Elf work? Does this imply any
obligations? Do you have to be a Secret Santa?
I don't want to reveal my wish list!
If I buy a game here at GOG and enter that I want
to give it away, do I get the key that should be
sent to you? Can I decide for myself what I want to
give away? Who gets the game(s)? The Secret Santas?
Is there a value equalization? How can I make sure
that the person who receives a game from me as
a gift doesn't already have it in their library
and may not need it?
Kind regards
A Secret Elf is someone who wishes to buy another forum member a gift, but does not want to receive one in return.
Those who have signed up as a Secret Santa wish to both buy a gift for another member, and receive a gift as well.
The recipient of a gift will be randomly drawn by Zeffyr, who is hosting / doing the admin.
By providing wish lists (either making the GOG wish list public, posting a list of games interested in or sending Zeffyr a PM with a list of games ensures nothing is gifted that is already in someone's library.
There is no value equalisation. Everyone who signs up as a Secret Santa is aware that the value of the gift they receive may not have the same value as the gift they purchase.
If you have a specific game you want to give away, then you may wish to check out the GOG Community Gifting thread or one of the many other giveaway threads that already exist (or even start your own).
