I'll keep it short and sweet. Steam/epic/battle.net/etc etc etc have been frustrating me and I feel like gog deserves my money more than they do. I have high hopes for galaxy 2.0 and have signed up for the beta. But since I am new here I am looking for some friends to play with so please add me and maybe we can game together.

Also since I'm already in here does anyone have recommendations of games to get? I know gog has some older titles and titles that may not have as much visability on other sites because they get buried.
Welcome.

Given that there's way over 2000 games here, it'd help if you narrowed it down a bit based on your preferences?

Otherwise I'll just recommend this (because it's my favorite as of late): https://www.gog.com/game/the_expression_amrilato

well narrowing it down is really tough for me, I'll play literally any genre as long as it's a decent game. But lately i've been mostly into roguelikes, platformers, metroidvanias and adventure games.

Games along the lines of enter the gungeon, gato robo, witcher
Welcome to GOG! ^_^

If you haven't already played them I highly recommend these classics:
Master of Magic (An excellent single player turn based strategy game.)
Ultima Underworld 1 + 2 (Two first person RPGs that are often imitated but rarely if ever equalled.)

Also don't forget that Tyrian 2000 is free on GOG, so give it a try.

Enter the Gungeon is one of the best modern indie games!

Just its existence gives me hope that we'll see more quality games created that can rival the classics.

When you say "adventure games", do you mean point&clicks or the generic "adventure" tag?

As for metroidvanias, Bloodstained is a fairly new one. Supraland also got here recently.
Platformers aren't really my thing, but GOG has some classics like Psychonauts and the original Tomb Raider series which are definitely worth checking out if you haven't already.

Edit: My links are borked and I do not know why, I'll just take them out. :(

I do like point and clicks but im talking more along the lines of the tomb raider reboots

Unless I'm mistaken there are several games that are only found here on GOG as they themselves have a hand in getting them a modern re-release. (List of games with GOG as the publisher )

Here are the games:
Dungeons and Dragons Stronghold - Kingdom Simulator
Al-Qadim: The Genie's Curse
Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate
Final Liberation: Warhammer Epic 40,000
Warhammer: Shadow of the Horned Rat
Warhammer 40,000: Rites of War
Fantasy General
Pacific General
War Wind
War Wind II: Human Onslaught

GOG has also released several older D&D games that they sell in packs.

Forgotten Realms - The Archives - Collection One:
- Eye of the Beholder
- Eye of the Beholder II: The Legend of Darkmoon
- Eye of the Beholder III: Assault on Myth Drannor

Forgotten Realms: The Archives - Collection Two:
- Pool of Radiance
- Curse of the Azure Bonds
- Hillsfar
- Secret of the Silver Blades
- Pools of Darkness
- Gateway to the Savage Frontier
- Treasures of the Savage Frontier
- Forgotten Realms Unlimited Adventures

Forgotten Realms: The Archives - Collection Three:
- Dungeon Hack
- Menzoberranzan

Dungeons and Dragons: Krynn Series:
- Champions of Krynn
- Death Knights of Krynn
- The Dark Queen of Krynn

Dungeons and Dragons - Dark Sun Series:
- Dark Sun: Shattered Lands
- Dark Sun: Wake of the Ravager

Dungeons and Dragons - Ravenloft Series:
- Ravenloft: Strahd's Possession
- Ravenloft: Stone Prophet

I believe that most of these games are using DOSBox to run on modern machines, so as long as you have an interest in DOS-Era games they may be worth a look.

Since you mentioned metroidvanias I should point out that " Treasure Adventure Game " (Oddly it is a game with the word Game in the title. XD) is free on GOG and the reviews emphasize that it is an exploration based metroidvania game.

Haven't played Treasure Adventure Game myself, but many people do seem to like it.

If you're looking for a 3D Metroidvania game and don't mind something a little weird, the one I'd personally recommend is:
Shadow Man.

The ambiance and voice acting really take that one to another level.

My quick suggestions:

Vertical Drop Heroes

Risk of Rain

Terraria

Rogue Legacy

Spelunky
Can you really be slightly new to gog.com when it says you have made your gog.com account in September of 2011?

created account, got a hand full of the free games available and never really did anything with it. So yes I may have created the account a long time ago but i'm new to actually using gog seriously

Thank you everyone for suggestions. I have a lot to add to my wishlist
I highly encourage you to make sure to download a back-up of any game you buy. It comes with the installation file so if GoG ever shuts down you'll still have any game you bought.

As far as I know all the other services force you to install from the server only. So if they shutdown then the games you bought there are probably gone.

kind of late for suggestions, since a lot of sales are passed. *shrug*

let's see some of the older staples I can think of offhand:
Doom
Blood
Sim City series
Alpha Centauri
Thief series
System Shock series
Deus Ex
Master of Orion 1 and 2
Heroes of Might and Magic (3 is the favorite for many)

Other games to maybe take a look at
King of Dragon Pass
Eador Genesis
Sacrifice
DIn's Curse

older indies:
Faster than light
Hotline Miami
VVVVVV
Spacechem
Spelunky
La Mulana

more recent indies:
Grim Dawn
Stardew Valley
Opus Magnum
Slay the Spire
Darkest Dungeon
Into the Breach
Dead Cells
The Messenger
Undertale
Crypt of the Necrodancer

Although I can't really say I've played or spent much time with some of those I tried to do what I can to pick out games that were popular or seem would appeal to most people .

Most of Falcom's stuff is good too, and for recent games that have ended up drm free there's Darksiders, Bioshock, XCOM hey they're actually currently on sale.

Not that I necessarily disagree but if I may ask, why do those other sites frustrate you?

Just asking because I have academic interest in why people prefer GOG.com. I'm gathering statistics about this, asking all the people on the world that same question, one by one.

You happen to be the first one I've asked, so according to my current statistics, 100% of the people are frustrated by Steam/epic/battle/etc.
