seriously
7 months later the platform sold less then half a million units
showcasing that there is absolutely no demand or interest in the product

it might even be lower
because the half a million number is the number of steam controller sold and these include the controllers packaged with every steam machine sold

these arent exactly numbers that will set the world alight
or for that matter worry windows or even mac os X

will valve kil this thing quietly or wil they stubbornly continue pushing it ?

article can be found here >> http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2016/06/its-time-to-declare-valves-steam-machines-doa/
I'd like to compare those numbers with that of the NES Power Glove when it came out and see what tanked harder. :P
No big surprise there. I pretty much expected those to tank right when they first announced them.

Also, SteamOS. Pfft. Yes, Valve is the savior of PC Gaming and will rescue you from the evil that is Microsoft Windows... and the walled garden that never really happened. Want some more smoke blown up your butt? Yes, please!

The Glove was a two dollar piece of foam rubber with some cheap plastic buttons on it. ;P

it took a raging nerd to make it a collectors item though ;p
They're in for the long term, I suppose. Hard to know what will happen; can definitely tell that the way the """advertised""" it was simply surreal. In the worst way, I mean.
I got us way off topic, sorry.

Can someone explain to me exactly WHAT the Steam Machine did and why anyone would want one?

so you mean it wil be a money tar pit trap and wil linger for a slog as valve can afford it before they pull the plug in 2025 after it cost them north of 5 billion ?

you ought to know by now that i dont mind ;p

and in so far i know a steam machine made it "easier" to have the console experience with a "pc"
and make linux more attractive for gaming

as we can see that didnt quite pan out
