Yeah just saw this newsflash on the TV while having my hair cut. Looks like it's really bad; it's rocked a good part of Asia, and tsunamis are expected to follow in neighbouring countries too.

Hope everything goes well for you guys staying in affected areas.
Damn dude.... there has been alot of this shit going on in the eastern countries lately. I'm sorry to hear about it & hope you all will be okay.

That being said... I wouldn't quite get on the end of world bandwagon just yet.... there have been literally millions of natural disasters since time began. It is just more publicized nowadays with the advent of television & the internet.

What terrible news to wake up to...

Best of luck to the people of Japan.

bansama: All I'm going to say is, that's the strongest earth quake I've ever experienced. Thankfully, family and I are unscathed.
Good to hear you and your family are ok.
Stay safe

good to hear from some more people that are unsratched.

The north west coast is a mess!
We, (my wife and me) am living in Tokyo. the "epicenter" zone just ended short of Yokohama. I have a friend there. So we "just" had a level 5 quake, but out apartment is disarrange quite a bit. Trains are mostly out also. Electricity works. But most of the nuclear plants plants are shut down, though.
Afterquakes still happening, lot´s of people suffer motion-sickness.

I hope fatality numbers stay low. Love to everybody!

I feel better knowing that Bansama reports to be fine (have to admit I was a little worried). We also have tsunami alerts, but our city is tucked behind a pretty large peninsula standing in the way and I'm more concerned about the people in the peninsula when the wave hits than about my city taking any damage. I guess we'll see how it all plays out, since it's likely the wave will coincide with high tides.

How are our other asian GOGers doing? Please report and let us know.
I just saw the Barrack Obama just offered aid to Japan. Now please don't take this the wrong way, but what in the mother of fuck is he thinking? We are in literally hundreds of billions of dollars of debt.... we can't even afford to help ourselves much less another country. Now that being said, I still wish the best for the japanese (as they are probably my 3rd favorite nation in the world) & hope you pull out okay... it is just that stuff like this annoys the hell out of me.

Good to see more people uninjured.

Do you know how Niihama-Shi, Ehime faired?
Robertitus, it's not dollars, it's technical assistance, which might be urgently needed now. ;)

And counting american assets together plus reducing them by their debt gives still an impressively positive number, many countries would envy. It's just not very equally distributed. (side note)

The photos looke terrible. In this far east asia/new zealand corner of the world, earth is quite active lately...
Not only am I greatly disturbed by what's happened to Japan as a admitted Japanophile, but I live on a damn peninsula bordering Washington & Oregon about 1/2th a mile from the Pacific. So I've also been having to follow that situation closely.

The call from the sheriff's office advocating evacuation didn't help matters either.

Well that is a relief I suppose.

Yet again, I still wish the asians the best. I just learned that Tsunami's fuck shit up... apparently one in 2004 killed 230,000 people.... thats insane O_O

Well, the US national debt is at least below 100% of GDP. The japanese national debt is 150% of GDP or more.

In Osaka, where I live, we experienced the first quake, but with a magnitude of "only" 3. Still it shaked a lot longer than usually, making my wife think it was no ordinary earthquake. Then we turned on the TV for the latest news... and saw the number. Holy... 8.9!!!

I keep my fingers crossed for all the people up there in northern Japan and also for all the areas where the tsunami alert is still on, including most of the Pacific Ocean...

Man, when we (living in Japan) will wake up tomorrow morning, I fear the casulaties numbers will be higher, unfortunately...

I think Obama is talking abut logistic aid, you must notice that no nation in the world have enough capability to face a catastrophe like this one. A road can be rebuilt in 1,2,3 years or more, but a man trapped on a collapsed buiding only have some hours to be rescued or die, diseases can be spread if there is no water and medical supply...
