TheEnigmaticT: That's what I get for writing a reply before I have my morning tea.
Um. Strong recommendation for Incubation in the Battle Isle pack. If you liked XCOM, you should like Incubation. If you've never tried XCOM, for heaven's sake go and get it from somewhere. No, it's not a GOG game, but this is one of those titles I feel obligated to recommend even if we don't have it.
Here's hoping it shows up on GOG sooner than later, X-COM is some seriously fun stuff. X-Com: UFO Defense, to be specific. It runs in DOSBox, so anywhere you get it from is going to be DRM-free, even Steam. I'd probably opt for Direct2Drive, since they'll give you an actual installer without a client, as well as not giving you any fuss over it like GamersGate likes to do.
xyem: I second the recommendation of Master of Magic. I got it in one of the promotions with no particular interest in playing it but I gave it a go and I'm really glad I did. Swiftly became one of my favourite games.
Me too. I'd never played Master of Magic and got it on sale thinking "Well, I'm sure it'll be better than MoO3, at the very least...". This'll get you through class, and then years later, you'll be able to reflect back on where you might be in life if you hadn't been playing games.
I know how that is, though. Looking back, I remember the reason I played Worm on a graphing calculator during math was because they were teaching what a variable was years after I'd already learned that, like last year, and the year before that.
Even if I had paid attention, my mind has been rotting since I left school and I'd have to learn most of algebra and everything else again, which is surprisingly hard outside of a school environment! Always wanted to learn geometry and trigonometry, I still don't really know what trig is, but they weren't teaching those when I was in high school. There were a
lot of things they didn't teach, come to think of it. The only science I had in high school was earth science, and I couldn't have cared less about tectonic plates and sedimentary rocks. Never had an art or music class in my life, and that's all I ever wanted. :P
So yeah, I'd berate you on shirking off in school, but seeing as you also live in the United States, I think it's relatively safe to assume you aren't learning anything important anyway...
