Does the game save after you complete a stage, or do you have to do it from scratch all over again?

Died a few times in the third or fourth level, and it returns me to the first.
You die, you start anew. All unlocks are saved automatically though.
That game is like Zelda seen through the eyes of an abused schizophrenic on acid. It's still a nice coffee break game but damn someone had some issues somewhere...

Edit: the game is basically a roguelike so expect it to kill off any saved files once you die.

So I am assuming, the only way to get to the end of the story would be to never die, right?

Correct, there are a couple of items that give you extra lives but that's about it.

Also you have to finish this sucker various times to unlock all endings.

The dead cat does but at a rather hefty cost...

Alright, thank you for the fast replies!

Looks like I'll have to cheat (yea, yea, just want to get through the story, and I don't feel like watching a playthrough or being challenged right now), again. VM shapshots, here we go again. :p

It's not fun if you spoil it ;D

There is also a mushroom with a similar effect.

Did you find the pentagram yet? :D

There's not much story to it (well, not in a narrative sense, at least). The fun comes from the way it's designed for replay and learning-through-iteration. A play-through takes about an hour if you don't die. Each game is randomly-generated, but as you play you do things to permanently change the rules for random generation (especially when you win) so the game "grows" in a weird sort of way.

You have to beat it about 10 times to get all of the endings.

The game is more about the journey.
Does anyone know what happens when you get one of those "X has appeared in the Basement" notes??

Does that mean that the possibility of finding some item has been unlocked for some level?

Just noticed that. Spent 2-3 hours playing it... I think I'll put it aside for now, and focus on finishing other games first.

Frozen Synapse is next on the list... I must say, both games are fun!
