stoicsentry: Nice. I was worried that people would have given up on this. Hopefully we can get a few more on board.
Hey bud, I am still game!

I was wondering if Jack would ever live again! :D

Yay!!! Thanks everyone for your support! And so soon? Wow!

So how would you all feel about using a very basic story-telling RPG system? I know Jack would be up for it, based on the past...

Great, so I'll get to work on writing the last chapter or two, which can serve as a prequel for further action. I really hope this is the final time that I need to change things up. LOL.

So far, I have really enjoyed the interaction and story and want to see where we can take it.

I know one thing. I liked it best when we played it as an RPG with you being the DM and just letting us, the characters, sort of influence the story. Maybe it's me but I rather like a more fluid story rather than a fixed one, if that makes any sense.

Basically, I liked it best in the beginning where we had a scenario and then we made decisions based on the events within the scenario.

I agree. It was much more fun like that!

What got me down about that was too much number crunching and too many rules conflicts. I intend to have numbers here, but it will be more simple. Also, you will have virtually free reign to develop your character as you see fit.

The downside is that by removing much of the math, I will have a lot of power to determine outcomes. I suppose I did before, but probably more so this way.

Incidentally, I have never played a tabletop RPG in real life and know next to nothing about what I'm doing. LOL.

If AiV does return are we going to have combat phases? What about non-combat options like when we were running around trying to get the traitor or when we got a wish from the Djinn?

How can we make this work so it feels like an adventure again? :D
Yeah, Dzebo wants to kick Samuel's ass!

Combat phases: yes, but a lot simpler, I think.

Non-combat phases, yes, lots of free-form, non-combat story-telling like the Djinn! The Djinn represented some of the best moments in the game, like when Exile somehow convinced him to join you, that kind of stuff. Your journey to the Gobblers... all that. But probably the coolest thing of all was each of you picking a wish from him.

I would prefer it to be way more story-based. Just using stats as a general guideline.

I would like to go back to that whole idea of you "naming your own skills", SORTA.

I mean, Jack is a rogue, right? So let's say he specializes in Stealth. You could take any action imaginable under the label of Stealth ("hide", "sneak around undetected", etc.) and we would roll to determine the effect. I guess that's what D&D skill challenges are like, sorta.

Sorry for being vague, I'm writing a guide. It should only be about 5 pages long. I'll submit it for consideration and we'll see what people think.

Hey, your sister was the one making the moves! :P
I'd still be well up for this! :D

And in agreement with JudasIscariot, I really liked that same method, where you shaped the story around the characters. But yeah, whatever form it takes I'd still love to be a part of it!

Congratulations on your engagement btw! :)

Dzebo officially demands a duel!

*slaps with glove*
*Samuel detaches the glove from a conveniently placed suit of armour and uses it to slap Dzebo back*

Challenge accepted.

stoicsentry: Hello all!

I can't believe it's been 2 months! Wow!

Not to beat a dead horse, but since I got engaged, my fiancee hasn't given me a break from all the wedding planning.

Plus, it happens to be one of the busiest times of year at work. Ah, how I long to have the summer return...

Here's the thing: I never forgot or intended to stop doing this story, and I still don't. Just.. the time has been the issue.

Also, I have been struggling with the fact that there are 20+ characters. It just gets a tad confusing unless I have you guys to watch my back...

So, I would like to ask a question!!!

Is anyone still interested in the idea of writing this story collaboratively through role-playing?

If so, here's what I would do: I'll write one or two more chapters to get everything to a certain ending, then we can pick up from there. Details to follow. Whatdya say?

P.S. your character would retain their level, but you would have to re-constitute them a bit.
I'm up for it!

Rockin!

stoicsentry: Rockin!
Pfft should have known I was up for it!
Ok, so there's basically two things I have to post:

1) A conclusion/prelude chapter to further the action. It's going to be a very brief (3 pages or so) outline of everything that has to happen to get us moving forward.

It's going to be explain a ton of events in very little time... so don't worry if you get lost a bit.

I'll post that tonight.

2) The new "rules" and a sign up thread. Very story oriented, it should be relatively simple to re-design your character. Not much in the way of numbers at all, more on the creativity side. I feel like I do need SOME numbers to help maintain focus, so that everyone is not going all "one shot, one kill" on a dragon and that kind of thing.

I should post that this week (probably not tonight).

All returning characters will be assumed level 10. Any character who didn't return "must have died in combat."

EVERY CHARACTER is welcome to return. Even if it sounds like your character is dead/lost, he/she isn't! There's a little sub-plot going on with one character in particular.

That's it for now, more soon!
