AlKim: They get boring and samey after a while, and you learn to ignore them. I found myself much more motivated by thoughts of the (potential) positives of quitting than the negatives of continuing the habit, anyway.
We got one around here, where the guy is hawking up a lung through out the commercial. I have to mute that one every time.
Good luck on your journey, reaver894. Stay strong and keep your focus on the long term!
Good luck to everyone trying to stop smoking...its a hard way.

Gerin: Hi - a friend is trying to stop smoking and is allergic to Chantix and the gum and patches. Do you who have walked in her shoes have a suggestion I can pass on? Is she doomed to doing it the hard way? Thank you for any input.
Well, I stop smoking about five years ago(maybe more). And yes, I have an advice. Don't Smoke. Or Smoke. But don't "try to stop smoking". Because if you "trying" - it means that you just don't want to stop. And if you don't what - why bother?

Coelocanth: I work in a book store and we sell a lot of (and get a lot of positive feedback on) Allen Carr's Easy Way to Stop Smoking. I've never smoked, but people have told us that this book is very effective. Maybe tell her to have a look at it?
I have read this book after I stop smoking. And after reading I had an urge to start smoking again. Stupid book, wasted money.
Change the source of dopamine... working out is a good natural alternative.

My parents were really bad smokers, both of em, very addicted. They are clean for more than 15 years now, but their turning point had to do with a time they were very sick (bad cold or something like that) and when they smoked in that condition they described it as very gross and this for whatever reason made em stop.

reaver894: My resolve failed me.

Will try again soon though, probably after this packet lol.
Hey, no worries - it's the trying that counts and each day that you don't smoke is a good day. I know it was mentioned earlier but I quit using Nicorette. Sadly I am addicted to the stuff :-( My doctor says that at least I'm not killing myself but my dentist suggested that, unlike cows, humans don't grow replacement teeth ;-p

Anyway, keep the faith and try again another day!
Cheers folks.
My ex girlfriend threatened me to no kissing if I kept smoking.. It worked!

Im single, and to be honest I socialised more with women when i do smoke than when i didnt.
The only advice I can give you is...

Keep trying.

I must have tried, literally hundreds, perhaps 1000s, of times, over the 25 years I smoked heavily. And occasionally those attempts worked for as long as six months or a year, only to restart again. I ended up in the hospital with about my 20th bad case of bronchitis, and when I quit that time it stuck for over a year.

Sometimes it would stick for days, sometimes weeks, sometimes hours. It's the second hardest thing I've ever had to do in life, and thought I'd never do it.

But then one time, it stuck. It's now been almost 10 years since I quit, and now the cravings are completely gone (that's one problem, the cravings will last for a few YEARS even after you quit).

So, just keep trying. If you really want to, you will. Don't give up. Don't ever give up.

PhoenixWright: One of those electronic cigarettes? I'd treat them more as a last resort though...
I recommend vaping, yes. I switched from normal cigarettes about 8-9 months ago and haven't looked back since. You no longer smell like smoke, it's safer, there's no secondhand, etc. I use Blu.

Don't let it get you down. Wait until you're not stressed about quitting again. Then, quit again.

All the best, man!

I said the same four or five years ago. I probably would have remained the unfit single that I was if I had continued the habit, although admittedly it's impossible to say for sure.

I haven't been paying particularly keen attention, but you were about two weeks without cigarettes, correct? It's a pretty good sign, faltering or not.
