So...I was digging around under my parents' bed and found a box of my old stuff. Lo and behold, one of the items in the box was the Icewind Dale 3 In 1 Boxset. Glee and stuff, naturally.
It's exactly the sort of thing I've been craving - I can't believe I had forgotten I own it. I've never played it. Before I start, I want people's advice.
1. Are there any required unofficial patches? I'm well aware that Baldur's Gate II and Temple of Elemental Evil are practically a mess without fan patches.
2. Are there any important mods I should know about? Obviously I'm playing them in order, but is there something akin to the Baldur's Gate Trilogy mod that shifts them all to IWD2's newer engine?
3. Are there any special tricks or tips to know to play? It seems most games have them.
4. I stumbled across a review once that rambled on a bit about how unbalanced IWD is, and how you have to export characters and import them again and repeatedly do the beginning part of the game in order to have a chance of continuing. Is this true, or just paranoia/powergaming?
Thanks so much in advance - I know this thread technically belongs in the IWD forums, but I doubt I'm the only one that rarely even goes to game-specific forums, and I figure it's free advertising for one of the lesser-mentioned Forgotten Realms titles in GOG's catalog.
