Dzsono: I looked up the file sizes and was blown away by how big it is. Jagged Alliance BIA was 2gb or something (a comparable type of strategy game). Have you found out what's eating up all that space?
Not really sure, since I didn't keep those 12GBs, but I'd say it's the 1080p videos, and the localizations. It does feature voices in ~5 languages, and it does have a lot more videos than JA:BiA.

Vitek: . I don't wuite get, why should aliens want to blow up trains when there are more efficient ways to harm humanity.
Terror. It works ;-). Just as in real life. The one mission I had was to disarm a bomb which would have blown up a city if not stopped.

The game is very, very good. But it is an evolution from the original and not a recreation.

Eg the tactical combat is a lot more "tactical" as in "puzzle like". No more crepping slowly and steadily towards the dark. But you actually advance from cover to cover rather fast.

The biggest gripe is indeed that you cannot fire on environments. Not as problematic with removing cover (as "missed shots" usually vaporise the cover) but if you want to open a window so soldier A can fire a missle inside the house, you need to have soldier B seeing an alien somewhere behind that window or he can't fire.

But this is just minor stuff that comes up once every ten missions. I'm very happy I bought it and it will be a game I will play on and off for a long time.

1080p videos you say? Yeah, that'll take up space really quickly! Not too many games do that, if any...

X-Com has a lot. It is like in those 90s games when the engine graphic wasn't good enough and they made little videos for everything. X-Com probably has hundreds of those.

This I would unerstand but blowing up railway just sounds like petty act of terrorism, not worth of aliean resources and attention. I don't really mind this, it only surprised me, they do such "mundane" thing.

orcishgamer: Would you like to hear how good it is, or how I'm neglecting it to try out Dishonored?:)

SimonG: I already have more achievos on X-Com than you, my green friend ;-P. Ah, the joys of the internet ...
Okay, I suppose that means "IT'S ON!"
My copy arrived today (because it was Thanksgiving on Monday), and I was pleasantly surprised to see an actual cardboard game box. Probably the first PC game I've got in a proper box in like forever. I knew about the extras for preorder version, but for some reason I thought they were going to be digital, so it was surprising.

What wasn't suprising though was the amount of damage that occurred to the box, as is usual with Amazon. They did the same thing with my The Last Story limited edition box (which I exchanged for another copy, which was also damaged, but not as heavily). How carelessly Amazon packages these special/limited edition copies of games never ceases to amaze me. If I knew XCOM was going to boxed like this, I would have preordered the game from a real store. Oh well.
Holy crap. There is a reason your soldiers advance fast through their ranks. Because you will lose them. Also, I'm having a lot more money problems than in the original. A lot of the "changed stuff" is really for the better. Eg. While you only have "one main base", you have several fighter bases across the globe. Which is pretty much what I did in the originals anyway. And while I miss that they streamlined the inventory, I can see that this makes a lot of stuff easier. No more accidentally sending Soldiers of with pistol clips for the rifles.

Oh, and a warning. Cars explode. Took out three soldiers in one turn in my game.

Yeah, I was kind of waiting for the enemy to start throwing grenades back, it finally happened last night... That achievement for getting one guy through the entire campaign alive... yeah... that's gonna be hard. I still have him, but on my current "Very Difficult" mission I'm having trouble keeping even half my squad up. There are a couple I'd really rather not lose. EDIT: Damn this patch! 1GB!? You have got to be fucking kidding me... That's not even a patch anymore. It's a new copy of the game!

And a region locked one at that...
Now to wait for the retail version to arrive, and see how I can change the currently installed one...
Came here to post about the region locking. Sounds like people who got keys from outside their countries are being locked out of the game?

Yet another reason to not buy games when released.

Wow, are you fucking kidding? That is serious bullshit.
People who were gifted extra copies of Civ from XCOM preorders also are being locked out.

I wonder how this might be affecting people who got keys from places like GreenManGaming?
I wish i had free time. I barely had enough time to finish Dishonored (It was just so good, I had to go over my game time budget a little for it). I still have XCOM, The Assasin's Creed Series (Yes.. ALL of them), Game of Thrones RPG, Resident Evil 6,, Diablo 3, Pokemon Black 2 and a few Gog.com games on my backlog.

Borderlands 1 was so boring to me I gave up half way so i couldn't be bordered caring about Borderlands 2, Most new games dont interest me, so fortunately it doesn't add much to my already full backlog.
WOTS from around the web is that games are working again.
