Different banks have different rates, RBS is £1.50 per shot.

I just got a prepaid Master from Post Office I think it was, chuck a bit of cash on that for my purchases here. Also use Paypal occasionally but they have messed up in the past when I purchased stuff on Steam and they decided to chargeback the transaction when there was funds in the wallet which effectively locked me out of Steam for a morning last Christmas!

titanofdoom: Bad news i just used a DD card to purchase it and didnt check back before as I was so excited to buy it :) I bank with Lloyds so can i now expect a £1.50 transaction charge? I think I'll go with paypal in future then, thanks alot guys.
Yeah, If your bank charges you for transactions, PayPal is the best option.

Welcome to GOG.com , enjoy your stay!

JMich: Also, give your bank a call to see if they will be charging you a fee for transactions in dollars, seems like a lot of the UK banks like to do that.
Does anyone know why they do this? It is just one of those "because they can" kind of deals, or is there a practical reason for it? My bank does not care if I buy things from countries using strange currencies
As you guys are so helpful I have another question regarding downloading two games at once through the COG downloader. I am currently downloading the witcher 2 and now have purchased darkstone and added it to the downloader, but it is staying in a paused state? How can I get it to download along with the witcher 2? Thanks

Yes, but they probably exchange your money to dollars in an unfavorable exchange rate

You can't, because GOG downloader sucks balls and can't download more than one thing at once. You can however drag Darkstone above TW2 to pause TW2 download and start Darkstone's.

edit: And don't forget that you can download the games via browser, which does allow more downloads at once

Another way is to use one of the many inofficial downloaders, that work really nice:

I still prefer jGOGDownloader. Simple, small, fast, downloading all of the extras :)

Nope, they don't. As far as I can tell, the exchange rate I get is based on the current one.

It's the same for me. My bank doesn't charge anything, and uses the current exchange rate. Those banks that do charge for this do it "because they can". Technically, there is no reason for it whatsoever. It's one extra line of code that needs to be executed to convert the currency, and probably not even that. When using the local currency, it's probably also "converted" by a fixed factor of 1:1.

It's different when you want to exchange physical currency of course. In that case the bank actually has to do something, but for digital transactions it's a scam, pure and simple.

titanofdoom: Hi,

I just bought the witcher 2 on GMG and had problems installing it so was told to dowload it here and found a gem of a site :)

There is a game I have been wanting to play again for years and my question is am I able to purchase games here from the UK? All games are in dollars so just wanted to double check - may be a silly question but would rather be safe than sorry!

Thanks!
Welcome to GOG. You'll love it here :)

I just finished playing Darkstone on Windows 7;. Truly awesome game. One of my favorites on GOG.

I have about 50 games from GOG and all run fine on my Windows 7 system, so I doubt you'll have problems. If you do, someone in the forums will help you get it fixed :)

BTW, just to add on to what someone else was saying.

Tuesdays and Thursdays on GOG are new game release days, so we get 2-4 new games a week released (well, most are classic games and some are indie games).

On Wednesday, we get Gem Promo Sale day, which means one game is chosen every week to go on sale and can be as cheap as $2.39.

Friday is the big sale, where we get around 5-8 games that go on sale for the weekend and, again, as low as $2.39.

Make sure you check back often or you'll miss some cheap and very cool promo :)

BTW, promos usually go up around 6pm my time (Thailand), so around lunchtime in the UK. check then.

I wasn't clear - I meant that exchange rate in my bank is worse than in currency exchange. Not much, but still.

I would note that the browser connection is S L O W compared to our downloader.
how much would 2 items costing $4.99 be in great british pounds
According to Google: "4.99 U.S. dollars = 3.2663481 British pounds".
