Full Auto? I don't know if it's any good, but it counts.
Anybody here remember Deathtrack? With Sly, Melissa, Killer Angel, Praying Menace?

I'm not familiar with any of the new stuff but there are a couple of new indie car combat games at Steam.

If you dig for more retro try taking a peak at the Vigilante 8 series for the PSOne.

EDIT

As mentioned "Crasher" is one but it's an MMO

and the other is this:

I remembered back when I was in middle school enjoying a copy of Death Rally I got out of a software bargain bin. It's like a cross between One Must Fall 2097 and Super Sprint.

I was glad when the developers of the game made a version for modern versions of windows as part of a promotion.

You can get it here if you're interested:

Post Apocalyptic Mayhem.
Darkwind: War on Wheels. Turn based car race-and-combat strategy on a persistent online world.
Rage is supposed to have a dedicated car combat mode. Multiplayer only though, I think. Still, it might be worth a look as the game is shaping up very nicely.

I thought Rage was to focus on vehicular combat, with intermittent FPS sections, such as to plumb the depths of a sewer for parts and ammo or something.

Auto Assault was a Clan v Clan vehicle combat game. I'm not sure why it never took off.

I don't know exactly what the balance is. I wouldn't expect id to play down the FPS aspect too much .But there definitely is a dedicated auto combat mode in the game. That much is confirmed. Looking forward to that one.

Foxhack: Uh, what? Zombie Driver's been out for more than a YEAR now.

LordKuruku: Hey, that's no way to talk to Marty! I think his time circuits need recalibrating. You're in 2009, so there's obviously a twenty-year calibration error. Just set the dials for 1969 and you should hopefully end up 1989, which I'm assuming was your goal, and Doc will be able to fix things from there.
Its more commonly known as when the uk gets the game as a retail copy

People still buy retail? More importantly, people would pay £25 for a retail copy of this game? It's pretty decent, but it's definitely not $40 decent...

It's already been on Steam forever for £7, not counting the fact that it frequently goes on sale. So yeah, like Foxhack said, this game is not at all recent. Is there something special about this retail release or something?
Megarace 2, one of the classic ones and of course Carmageddon 1 + 2

Flatout and Burnout Paradise have awesome physics and great graphics.
Is it good? It looks fun.

And whenever anyone posts a Steam link here, why does it lead me to a Japanese version of the store?

No... not multi-player only. You can engage in automotive combat in single player mode. It is supposed to be part of the single-player story.

The game looks awesome. Rage is one of the very few games I'm actually really pumped for... and car combat is part of the reason.

I'm talking about the dedicated car combat mode. Not the car combat aspect of the single player campaign. There might be a dedicated car combat mode in single player (or at least bots for the MP). But that's not something I've seen any confirmation of.

Oh... Well, actually... That is cool.

I have me some fond memories of the wonky but fun Interstate 76 Multiplayer. I think if RAGE is half as good at the car aspect of the MP game, I'll dig that.
