Thought this really looked good in the streaming demo today. I might be picking this up shortly. :)

StingingVelvet: Right before that they said pollution and such was taken out? Wasn't that included in the PC Gamer review?

That would be strange, as there was no pollution in the preview version (a shame, as there does not seem to be anything particularly interesting going on in the modern age).

phanboy4: If there had been a manual, would you really have needed to read it? Sure it's NICE, but given that by now everyone knows how to play Civ more or less, and that new players will manage nicely with the tutorial/Civlopedia, I don't see this complaint as being particularly meaningful.

I'm a full time gamer, part time collector. so I do want the box and the thick manual. Would make sense for them to put the printed manual into the CE at least.
Ya, do read manuals, especially manuals for Paradox Games.

I think that the concept of pollution and maybe also resource shortage should be very important in any historical simulation of modern times. However Civ is not so educational than it is advertised, it simply has a historical setting but thats all. And pollution probably was not so much fun to deal with, as its true in reality where it is not fun either. :)

I have a choice to either buy this retail for $50, one of the greatest game series ever with no fancy extras or go see a concert for a bunch of people I've been wanting to see live for like, ever. Decisions, decisions.

Time for a little creative fundraising. And you're not the only one. I can already see the crime rate double in our country in the next few days.

On the other hand, there's the typical Civ-problem that the late game becomes a bit boring and uneventful, and pollution/global warming could have been made a real challenge for the players to deal with here. There does not seem to be any other new features which makes the late part of the game more interesting in Civ V.

I think thats where city states and the new AI kicks in with the 1 unit per tile limitation as well combat and diplomacy have become much more complicated overall..
Everything I read says this is more of a combat Civ, but that is a good thing if you ask me. Not because Civ needed changing, or that I need combat in my TBS, but because different installments should feel different.

So true. However, maybe a re-release of Civ 1 (or Colonization or SMAX) with polished graphics, AI and interface would be more appealing to the modern young folk than releasing Civ 1 here on GOG.

I think theres a good chance this engine will see the SMAX remake sids been hinting about for the last year or so and some of the engine changes could really work well with it.

It's hard not to hate anyone who owns Civ V.

Again, same here. Putting manuals in CE editions is something I like. That way I can choose the games I want to spend extra on to get stuff like that.

Reviews are popping up, here's a thread on 2K with them:
http://forums.2kgames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=86783
And there will be a live demo again, this time on Gamespot. It starts in 01h45m.
http://www.gamespot.com/shows/now-playing/?event=now_playing_civilization_v20100917
Looks like the early reviews suggest that it's holding up to the Civ standard.
I'm probably going to pick up Civ 4 if they have it cheap over the next couple of weeks (or from Amazon, or something).
