Welcome to where time stands still. No one leaves and no one will.

Sanitarium, a psychological thriller of an adventure game, taking you deep into the deranged realm full of morbid and unsettling visions, is available 60% off on GOG.com. That's only $3.99 for the next 24 hours.

I am alone in here. I enjoy being alone. I'd prefer to be left that way. It's a little bit cold here, but I don't mind. I'm comfortable. I'm not hungry and I'm not thirsty. I don't miss my mommy. Not anymore. I think I kind of forgot what she looked like. I just want to sit here and play with my doll. In the night time the angels come to cut her open. I can hear them whispering. That's the only sound they make. Their wings are silent, just like owl's. I pretend I'm asleep. Otherwise, they might cut me open too. In the morning I'm sewing my doll up, but with each day it gets more difficult. One of these days, I won't be able to fix her and I'll have to just leave her open. Angels in the night won't have any other choice but to open me, instead. Will you come again, then? Please sir, will you come to sew me back up? I would like that. I think I'd prefer to sit here, alone and whole rather than be left open. Can you promise me, sir?

Sanitarium is one of those games that you don't forget easily. Gameplay-wise, it's a traditional adventure title with top-down isometric visuals, and not much gimmicks. But when it comes to the story, this one takes you way out of any sane man's comfort zone and puts you in the middle of an insanity-fest. Your surroundings are creepy, the characters you meet are eerie, and the protagonist has no memory of his past. Tiptoeing over the fine line that separates life and death you try to unveil the terrifying reality hidden behind the horrors of your character's visions. If that's not the perfect premise of a psychological thriller game, than we truly don't know what is.

Dare to cross over into the twisted, deranged world that engulfs all who visit the Sanitarium, for only $3.99 on GOG.com. The Classic Gem Promo 60% off discount offer lasts only until Tuesday, March 4, at 10:59AM GMT.

mondo84: Great review - agreed 100%. :)
Well, I wouldn't call it a review but thanks. :D
This game started my fascination for insanity and exploring your subconciousness as story telling theme. I was probably 12 years old when I first played the demo and it immediately became a goal for me to find the game. It would take one or two years before I finally found it in a store and I enjoyed it a lot, despite not being fully fluent in English.

Sanitarium and Max Payne were probably the two biggest driving forces behind my teenage creativity (short stories, drawings, music). I actually adopted the name "Grimwall" for my online screen handle up until about 2010.

Having gone back to the game in later years (thanks to GOG) I realise the game is not as clever as it wants to be, the dialogue is quite bad and the voice acting even worse (though very enthusiastic!). Expect most of the dialogue to be "What is going on here!?" even though the story is cliché-ridden and void of surprises. It is still a great experience with interesting things to see and do. Recommended for adventure gamers!
This is another game I remember since it was released due to a review, but never managed to play. I couldn't resist =).

GOG.com: Welcome to where time stands still. No one leaves and no one will.
Looks like we have a fan of Metallica here ;o)
Great song, btw.
A must for point and click aficionados, but I would recommend this to everyone, it's worth playing through for the story alone. I could not stop playing it until the end.

tinyE: I wonder if the guy who started the thread yesterday about how all the games he gets here suck has this one? The girls voice in the options screen is worth the price alone. I have "Faces of Death" on DVD, I watch it all the time and I think it's hilarious, but that girls voice in 'Sanitarium' SCARES THE SHIT OUT OF ME! :O

Kunovski: llllllllllllllload game

ssssssave game

:D love her
I know --- isn't she so wonderful? She sounds so deliciously creepy that I just love her! I have re-installed or booted up the game from time to time just to hear her voice. :-)

As for the game, my favorite parts are the asylum, the children and their "mother", and the preacher and his disciple. The rest were good too, but at times I specifically like to replay just those sections.
Just to be sure :

There is no french version included, right ?

I had re-sold my french retail version, but I'd like my father to see it now that he's getting into adventure games, and, well, I don't think he can deal with english versions....

Yeah, I just checked my download section and there is no option for a french language version - sorry.
why does it say adventure/action/horror on the genre line? what are the action elements in this game?

(i thought it was a point-and-click?)

IIRC there are one or two mini-games that require some fast clicking and reflexes, but certainly not substantial enough to warrant an 'action' tag. Probably a mistake or oversight on GOG's part.
