There it is. The issue ALL of us suggested that all the companies scoffed at us for suggesting came to be. They ruined their one free pass. It's over. Always-on will NEVER be acceptable ever again for single-player games.
Think this is why Pirate Editions, is easier to run than the shop\online bought copies. I know one of my friends are like this, Buy the game, then download the pirate edition, as in his eyes it's easier that way.

Neobr10: This is BS, i have Darkspore on Steam and i was planning to play it at some point. Fuck it. I should get a refund, since i haven't even downloaded the game, let alone launch it, but i doubt Valve will refund me.
I've got the shop bought version, got it as part of a "bundle" at the shop when I bought Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit (2010). I've yet to take the DVD out of it's box
Well, seeing this topic I decide to dig out my Steam copy. I've just tried editing several heroes and all of them saved their new states without issue. So, the game is indeed playable (for some); it's just not a very good game.

* Naturally I can't speak for people who have to make a new account, nor does this mean that others aren't getting the error that prevents character states from saving.
And it wasn't even 2 years since launch date.

I think the real problem is that everything is now a cash grab and a cash grab only. Art has become a buzzword for EA to throw around to pretend it's a good company.

Hey remember what EA did to Ultima?
Yeah.
Could make for an interesting test case, having customers bring a class-action suit under lemon laws. Such widespread problems that have remained unresolved to the point that merchants are refusing to even sell the product would probably make this about the strongest test case one could hope for.

jamyskis: Not sure if serious or lampooning the idiots that do actually say this shit... (the word 'shiny' suggests the latter to me)
wouldn't be a bad guess

DaCostaBR: EA abandoning the game
Did EA just say "abandonware"? ;)
Why do people even buy EA games anymore? I mean, it's not like they're particularly good...

Some of them are. In my opinion, Kingdom of Amalur is quite a good game. :)
And remember, folks, cloud computing/gaming is the future....

Well, I have mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, no single player game should be indefinitely tied to an online scheme unless there's a way to flip the switch and make it playable indefinitely offline once the DRM servers go down. On the other hand, Darkspore was an >ok< game and nothing spectacular, so it's not terribly surprising this happened.

I was more surprised that the game lived as long as it did. When I last played it about a year ago, there were never more than 90-100 people online, total. That's across North America, if not world-wide.

They couldn't have stopped it and then release the new Simicity right away, could they?

The only decent "EA games" are on GOG.

DaCostaBR: Weird, I checked all my latest posts and I don't see any marked as low-rated.
It went away seconds after my post.
