I have very fond memories of the dune saga.
Dune 2 was the very first real time strategy game of the kind of Command and Conquer.
Almost all the dune games were very good games.
The Dune 2 intro is etched into my brain.
Dune 2 was pretty neat, but there are simply much better rts games nowadays. Dune 1, however, is unique and timeless and all sorts of awesome.

Yes!! Finally somebody who sees it the same way. It was my favourite Sega CD game. Damn, way better than Dune II. (Dune II itself was pretty solid, but, as Pemtpus sais, not timeless)
Dune 2 was really oldskool because it was possible to have so many units in the game that playing the mission became impossible, as no unit could even fire a single bullet anymore due to too many objects in the game. You don't see skit like that in new games anymore! You had to play the game certain way (e.g. not let the enemy armies grow too much before attacking them) if you wanted to avoid the mission killing bug.
no love for dune emperor?

The only true Emperor game is Emperor: Rise of the Middle Kingdom. Speaking of which, why is only Caesar III here, and not its siblings; Zeus, Pharaoh, and Emperor?

Dune 2.............now add three zeroes :D.
Dune 2 is a milestone. Yes, it's barely playable today with the restriction of one unit selected at a time and a simple attack can require a lot of micromanagement, but the game is just awesome.
Dune 1 would be great to play again. Dune 2 while it is the RTS that started it all would probably be very frustrating to play.

Find a real-time tactical game called Siege released same year as Dune 2. The unit control interface blows every RTS of the 90's away.
I always ended up running out of resources in the later missions of Dune 2. That was a good thing if I was playing Harkonnen. A bad thing if I was playing anyone else. Especially Ordos. My saboteurs could never get close to the enemy turrets. With Atreides I could at least do a little damage to them before they took out my Fremen.

Has anyone played the action/adventure type Dune game thats just called Frank Herbert's Dune? I hear some people loved it, most hated it. I never got around to playing it myself. I have a friend that really enjoyed it though.

This. The only problem Dune 2 has is the user interface. Add multi-select, grouping and right-click move/attack, and the game would still be rock solid.

This.

Played it first at my cousins. Then, eeeh, acquired it for myself. Don't think I left my room for the entire summer of, eeerrr, 1993 I think it was?

Only HOMM 2 has ever had the same effect - the kind where your mom is threatening to call the social services after being unable to evict you from your room in like 6 weeks flat.

Good Question indeed. Emperor ROTMK is a great game, but keeping heroes satisfied can become very tedious.
