hedwards: And you don't have to leave a CC on the account, you can delete it after you make the purchase if you want to. Which is something that I really ought to do.
The only thing with that is then you have to keep maintaining your account on-line and there is something about the DRM keys being tied to the CC that was used to purchase the book. I don't know exactly what that means, like if the card used might be needed to restore access to books purchased by it under some circumstance or not. My bank had to cancel a card I used for security reasons and I deleted it from my account before I knew. I am unsure if that might complicate anything down the road and B&N didn't answer any of my questions on the issue.

I'm going to agree that G3 is a waste of money for 99% of all people.

The CC number is just needed to generate the key, you/'re not going to have trouble deleting the CC number. You may have to enter one before downloading a book though.

EDIT: I didn't have trouble redownloading my books after my bank gave me a new number.

Twilight: I never got the point of color e-book readers. First, you had classic computer screens, then we finally saw evolution towards e-ink and now everyone is thrilled to take a step backwards, back to normal screens? I mean... why? :D If I wanted a tablet, I would buy a tablet and I won't lose money on NookColor, imho.

hedwards: Right now I don't see any point to them either. Eventually though I'd be surprised if they weren't every bit as vibrant as color books are.

What's dumb about color ebooks is that they're basically just tablets with specialty software. The iPad for instance is more tablet than it is book reader and I doubt that it's very pleasing to the eye when reading.

But, it does a lot of things like animation which ebook readers either do poorly or not at all.
You reminded me of a great video, about an experimental interactive book for an iPad. This is, in my opinion, the future of tablets and it really justifies their existence (and color e-book readers :) Here it is - http://www.ted.com/talks/lang/eng/mike_matas.html

By the way, is anyone here using a Kobo? It is the cheapest reader I saw, it has a touchscreen, SD card slot... though it seems to be really basic and I'm not sure about screen quality...

I've kinda been hoping that background music could start getting integrated into some books so that when you reach a certain page it starts playing. Music is one of movie's great advantages and it is at least doable now do to some degree. Of course it might be harder to score for because the timing of it isn't going to be consistent between readers and who is going to want to take that job, probably cheesy low end composers. Beyond that I'm not really interested in interacting with my books.

I looked at the early model when I was shopping around. It has been upgraded to have wi-fi and I guess touchscreen. I thought it was a good basic implementation of the idea but I was a little worried about the blue navigation pad. I could see it wearing out and cracking after a while and the placement of it wasn't as comfortable as the paging buttons on a Kindle or Nook. It also had a lower levels of gray count if I remember correctly and the text didn't look quite as good as some of the more expensive options. Still when a local Boarders store was being clearanced they were selling the wi-fi model there for like 80$ and seriously thought about getting one. Its not as nice as the kindle but I do think it may be king of the cheaper e-readers. Unless they screwed something up since upgrading them I wouldn't mind having one laying around.
