kodeen: I didn't see that in the linked article, is it referenced somewhere else? I understand that MMO engines have different needs than offline games, and that Gamebryo might not be as light footed as an MMO would require, but I was mentally picturing a Gamebryo game with other people running around until you said that.

I don't see the appeal of MMORPGs.

ovoon: Heroengine is the most powerful MMO engine, the thing is freaking incredible if you take a look at the website for it. SWTOR didn't really bring it to its fullest potential, hopefully this one will.

That being said, now that this game covers all of Tamriel, what are they going to do for future elder scrolls games?
instead of tamriel we can play games in the planes of the deadra lords like the shivering isles

Probably not, actually. Beth is doing something really good by setting the game 1000 years before the single player games, meaning they can always release a TES VI that won't hurt the continuity of the MMO at all, unlike with WoW where any semblance of a Warcraft IV is impossible while the MMO still lives due to issues with the storylines.

As i already posted on the Steam forum .
I wonder how much griping there will be about the MMO being lore unfriendly.

I can't see how that would support the idea of the MMO killing the single player franchise.
I like that they're fronting PvP from the beginning, wouldn't mind a DAoC 2.

Though it'd be disappointing if they didn't translate the TES games' action combat and freeform characterization to the MMO, but opted for the standard model of auto-attack, hotkeys and classes.

Fucking Darkfall did true action in 2009. It shouldn't be that hard.

thats the sad thing about anything multiplayer these days all games need to have grinding to keep the casuals happy and i do not think there will subscription fees since they will have microtransactions

Then that will be really Sad. I don't mind MMO, I occasionally play them, really looking forward to Tera and Guild Wars 2 when I build my new PC. (I'm building it for other reasons than those but they look cool.) But I really like how ES gave the world to you, it was yours to do with what you wish and to explore. MMOs don't really allow the depth and exploration that a single player game adds, not to mention, MMOs really need to figure out how they can improve gameplay, as of now, they're very repetitive and I'm not sure what the ES MMO is going to do to change it.

Regardless of how they reap the revenue. the gameplay will be a travesty. Well, maybe travesty is too strong a word when so many such abominations exist. In any case, the P2W model actually makes subscription model look preferable, if only by comparison.
Interesting question: does people mostly play mmorpgs for the pvp or questing/exploring with your friends?
