HampsterStyle: Yes. I am serious. I can install FNV as much and as many times as I want as well.... It requires nothing more than a one time activation over internet at install - internet isn't required to play.
avatar
chautemoc: It requires Internet doesnt it? Steam's offline mode is a joke and works only sporadically.
I honestly have never had a problem with it. If internet is there it connects - if it isn't it goes into offline mode. Anytime I have ever done this it worked.
It only requires internet at install. That's a big difference from the blanket statement that it requires internet which implies the draconian Ubisoft style.

It's not Ubisoft but for me it's not that far off if I'm taking a risk in being Internet dependent. I know Steam needs to be updated for offline mode to work, and I've heard from other users here it checks for updates seemingly randomly and if it can't, offline mode won't work.

But it is nice to hear it's always worked for you.

DelusionsBeta: Same argument applies to Fallout 3. That said, rumours suggest that NVMM may be able to get round Steamworks, although I doubt it.
avatar
chautemoc: Yeah, but I wouldn't mind that as much. ;) It would apply to tons of new games actually, so I'm interested to see if and how GOG will get around that.

What is NVMM?
The New Vegas Mod Manager. It's a fan made manager for your, uh mods that will inevitably come out as time progresses.
The Mod Manager is already on the way however that alone did not circumvent the GFWL on Fallout 3 what was required there was FOSE or Fallout Script Extender which was required for some of the more advanced mods like Wasteland Wanderers Edition. The real test here is if the FOSE team can get a NV version working that can bypass Steam.

The point is you need to ask Valve if you can install New Vegas, where as you asked no one with Fallout 3. You know that.

Navagon: Yeah this game worky good. LOL
That's so amazing!
avatar
chautemoc: I wonder if this means GOG will never get New Vegas. =/
Hopefully agreements expire or something and they're allowed to crack it or Beth removes Steam or whatever.
Aren't most GoG games at least five years old? I'm sure there might be a few outliers but if you guys are waiting for GoG to become a service that offers current titles alongside Steam then don't hold your collective breaths. Hell, it's not even certain GoG will still be here in that time span.

I'm just thinking very long term, especially for New Vegas because it obviously belongs on GOG.

Anyway, small update released:

Console players have to wait. ;)

You'll know you're playing the best game ever when something like that happens intentionally.

Gotta love the steam approach to releases

Coming Wednesday!
Coming Saturday!
Coming Friday!
Oh its out now, didn't you know?

StingingVelvet: Why? You could completely ignore GFWL in Fallout 3 and even the DLC was DRM-free. I don't get the hate.
That is not true. I remember having to wait for one of the DLC to become available after it was pulled when the DRM wasn't functioning as advertised.

EDIT: Repeated myself

Adokat: If New Vegas had been on GFWL again, I probably wouldn't have gotten it for the PC. Steam is such a better alternative.

I just tried to re-install the game again before playing New Vegas (which is very good btw) and I couldn't even play it without installing GFWL first. I suppose that's similar with steam, but I had a very frustrating time getting DLC to work through GFWL. It really put me off. The ease of the services Steam provides makes it far better to me.

The DLC was DRM-free, just move the files to your data folder like a mod.

Yes, you have to have GFWL installed. You do not however have to activate through it or pay it any attention. Again, the point is you have to activate with Steam, you do not have to activate with GFWL.
