God I hate Squeenix, they are sure to dump all the old Crystal Dynamics/Eidos stuff here, but when it comes to their maiden series they make sure it's choc-a-bloc with DRM. Doesn't GOG sign up an entire publishers backlog when they bring a new publisher on-board? Is Squeenix trying to avoid putting certain games on GOG?
Unless you have a weird adherence to silly laws the way to play this is to buy it somewhere, anywhere, and play the PS1 version in an emulator.

I actually bought it on PS3 despite not owning a PS3, because I am that badass.
From what I read here, it's a DRM fest for 13€. I'm not buying until there's a REALLY good sale, but can't fool myself into thinking I can eternally resist dumping more money into this game.

You read wrong then, there's no more Securom on the Steam version, just a Square Enix account login first time you activate the game through some kind of launcher. It can be played offline.

The SE account is needed to use the character booster...if you want, of course.

So the SE extra stuff is nothing like an extra client hanging around Uplay style, then. And you don't even need to use that account at all unless I want to cheat?

That's good, now I can wait for a more regular sale before buying.
It seems that the game is a bit faster then the PS1 version.

EU or US PS1 version? Square were extremely lazy with their PAL conversions for many years.

I have on PS3 FF7 and 8, but they run slowly then this.
Also the graphic is much better on this version :)

Pheace: Considering how long this was in the registry I'm almost shocked it actually came out now :p

Next up, the D&D Anthology hopefully :)
Amen. That would be such sweetness.

Even that bothers me acutally... I somehow really would like to own this game on PC but the entire business praxis puts me off, even now that it is on steam.

Elmofongo: I wonder why they just cannot port Final Fantasy I, IV , and VI on PC, they port it everywhere except PC.....
Would <3 to see those on the PC.

Also would like to see ALL of the FF games on the PC - even up to FFXIII-2.
I think I still have the box CD sets from 13 years back.
