Darling_Jimmy: What about a prank where the GOG website gets taken down, replaced by a message about GOG not being able to continue in its current form. Foolproof!
I think that's probably why they didn't go with either of these ... though like with SimonG, I discovered this site due to the shutdown. :)

The discussion we had was more or less, "Yeah, any prank we pull will have 500 people commenting about the shutdown. So let's not do one this year." Short of defenestration, we've done about everything we can think of to express our regrets at the reaction to the site's shutdown while we upgraded it.
@TheEnigmaticT
"I also tried to convince the team here to announce our new publisher who we've actually signed today, just because no one would believe us. But we decided that was too much of case of messing with everyone's head."
NOW THAT IS CRUEL!!! C'MON TELL US..

Master911: and here is my new Word of the Day "Defenestration"
Would you believe I learned that word from Calvin and Hobbes?

(The comic, that is. Not the philosophers.)

Well now you're messing with our heads anyway. So you may as well go ahead with the announcement.
Interesting. I never realised defenestration was such an unusual world in other languages. It's something of a national sport around these parts.

I've always loved that word simply because the emphasis is on the window :)

it's so incongruous to me, but that may just be me.

Brilliant comic strip ... I loved the reason Bill Watterson gave for why the character names fit the philosophers so well was Hobbes' view of humanity came from Calvin who was "short, brutish, and nasty" :) and of course because Calvin was always on about pre-destination of growing up.

You know, I've never understood why people were so upset, I thought it was pretty funny. We were assured our games would still be available and it wasn't long before the baldur's gate teaser let us all in on the joke. I was shocked at first, but the clever wording of the statement was easily seen in hindsight.

Not trying to suck up to the administration in the hopes of free game codes or anything :) Seriously though, every time people talk about how upset they were by that I'm still a little surprised.

Me too. First thing I thought about the statement was "They're coming out of beta".

But no-one believed me when I told them :(

Learn this well, for it utterly defines all general human behavior:

Uncertainty generates Stupidity.

And as a token of proof that GOG will never prank us again, they'll shortly be releasing the 3 first games from this new publisher instead of the traditional weekend sale, so we may spend our weekend in good old gaming happiness.

Ain't I right, Mister *Enigmatic* T?

EDIT: *Sees the front page. Cries.*

You just broke my heart, EnigmaticT.

SimonG: I'm still waiting for the System Shock 2 announcement ....
avatar
TheEnigmaticT: We considered announcing System Shock, Syndicate Wars, every single Star Wars game ever, and even the Final Fantasy games today, but decided that would be cruel, even if it was an obvious joke.

I also tried to convince the team here to announce our new publisher who we've actually signed today, just because no one would believe us. But we decided that was too much of case of messing with everyone's head.
An April fools joke is only valid before 12.00pm (midday) so i put forward the motion that you kind folks announce the newbie to the club when the latest timezone turns midday.

All in favour say "aye" or raise your hand.
aye!
