Some quick questions about the graphics overhaul mod:

I have a boxed copy of Morrowind GOTY. Do I still need to install all the patches mentioned in the mod's installation guide? It says to install the Morrowind patch, the Tribunal patch, and the Bloodmoon patch. However, in the link he gives that lists all the patches, the Morrowind patch says not to install it if the Tribunal expansion is installed. Does that mean I just need to install the Tribunal and Bloodmoon patches?

Also, he says it is best to disable the UAC because it can cause problems with the mods. Now, from what I've read, disabling the UAC can cause security issues. Is that true? I don't want to leave my computer open to problems. If so, do I just need to disable the UAC for the installation, or do I need to keep disabled whenever I play the game?

Sorry for asking these questions here. I just have never installed mods before, I couldn't find the information I needed in the overhaul's forums, and I don't really want to create an account on another site.

Ash360: I think I just get bogged down by it after a while, I feel like I spend a disproportionate amount of time trying to find things. The tipping point of one of my attempts was that one ridiculous city. The person who designed the layout for that city is just, evil, actually evil. I can't quite remember it's name right now, Vivec?
Well, as Gazoinks said, Morrowind pretty much is about getting lost. When you can't find something, get lost, and insted of finding 10 different amazing things get frustrated, Morrowind probably isn't for you. It's worth trying again thou.

Oh, you also asked about other mods... I really like Necessities of Morrowind if you are after an experience-changing mod. With it, you can cook, and your character gets the need to drink, eat and sleep regulary. It's pretty customisable, so if you don't like something (like I really dislike that your character can't walk with fatigue at 0,) you can just turn it off. I find it adds a lot to the game and especially immersion - most people find it annoying thou.

I imagine the main Morrowind patcb comes with Tribunal, so you should be fine just installing the expansion patches.
As for the UAC, you only need to disable it during the installation. After that you can reenable it.

@Fenix (How do I quote more than one person?): I've always enjoyed needs mods, however since I'm on my first playthrough I think I'll go sans-needs and install that for subsequent characters. Thanks for the link, tho.

I have no clue why would he write that, installing tribunal gets Morrowind to latest version and installing Bloodmoon gets tribunal to latest version (do take note that you need to install the expainsions in this particular order.) So all you actually need is the latest Bloodmoon patch. Also, installing no-CD patch doesn't cause any issues, if you wanted to do that.

Most importantly, do NOT install the game into program files, that'll cause way more problems than UAC itself. If you feel disabling UAC would compromise security (which it does, in such a minor way that it causes more problems than it solves,) you may only install it with UAC off.

Thanks for posting this! It reminded me I needed to reinstall that mod. It looks incredible, especially if you're able to max it out. The new automatic installer is a fine piece of work too, compared to the novel you had to follow along with to get it installed in the past.

Thanks for the reply! I didn't install the game in Program Files, so I shouldn't have a problem there. So I'll grab the Bloodmoon patch and then disable the UAC long enough to get the mod installed.

Thanks again (to Gazoinks, too).
Yeah, I kinda got ninja'd there. But two heads are better than one, even if they're saying the same thing!

Hm, I installed Morrowind in my Program Files because it was a while ago and I wasn't thinking. Haven't had any problems so far, but I remember it meant Wyre Bash didn't work for Oblivion.

That's kinda complicated. Either you can find out what number is the post you want to respond to and put it in the quote tags ([ quote_number-of-post ] without spaces.) You can see the number when you hover over a post.

Or you can just do what I do, hit reply on one post, write up your reply, press ctrl+x, close the reply, hit reply on another post and using ctrl+v insert the quote and your reply into that. Just be aware that only the person you are quoting directly via reply buto receives a notification.

Also, I have the P in my nick for a reason, other than confusing my country-mates about correct inflection. So plese, do use it (and it's fine, don't you dare apologizing)

Well... I don't mean to impose upon you, but if you enjoy needs mod, this one really isn't difficult. You just spend a bit more money on food (and you don't have to, you can hunt.) And while not being difficult at all, it adds a lot to the experience.

Oh right, nearly forgot, another vanilla friendly subtle change that adds a lot is this:
Morrowind Ecology Adds bunnies to certain places, and more importantly it spawns much more herbivores in the nature than carnivores.
Hm, well maybe I'll install it after all then. Thanks for the link to Morrowind Ecology, I already have the Birds mod and the Sea Life one, so that oughta complete the triad.

Also, I just learned funny little exploit: Trainers' skills aren't actually preprogrammed, they just teach whatever their three highest skills are. This means that if you use a Fortify Skill ability with a magnitude of 100 and a duration of 1 second, they'll become a master trainer for whatever skill you used the spell on.

I've got the bird and wildlife mod too. The only thing I don't like is I keep getting attacked by bats. One awsome twist was that I was watching some fireflies when the bats came and about 5 fireflies ganged up and killed the bat.

I use the the needs mod and it does add quite a bit to game play, I have to make sure I have enough food and drink to go exploring. I also use a mod that increases fatigue regen when crouched and not moving, sorta like you are trying to catch you breath. I have also tried out a few Health Regenwhen mods looking for some that weren't too cheaty. I found one that bases regen on strength, endurance and how hut you actually are. The less you have to heal the faster it goes, but if you are down to your last few hit points it won't save you. It nice for when a cliff racer sneaks up on me to not waste healing supplies in 5 points of damage.

Regarding trainers, I believe the Unofficial Patch fixed it but you could also cast a spell to drain your skill level to 1 for a few seconds and then the trainer only charges you 1 gold.

Stevedog13: snip
You can disable bats by typing set ab01dayonlybirds to 1 in the console if you wish. Shame about the trainer patch, it's kind of an entertaining exploit.
I've hardly play Morrowind yet, being too busy for years now with Baldur's Gate, but when Infinity Engine-addicition starts to wear off, it will be a good time to start install Morrowind again, this time with this incredibly nice-looking mod. Gives me something to do untill Skyrim drops enough in price to buy it. Thanks for creating this topic.
