We seem to be establishing a small, but stable Mafia community here at GOG, so I figure it's time to get a general discussion thread going.

Please use this thread for any and all discussion on the topic of mafia.

This thread will also be used for administrative purposes, first and foremost to maintaint the hosting list(s). If you want to host a game, let me know here in this thread.

Table of contents:

Make sure not to discuss games in progress.

Hosting Rules

1. To sign up to moderate a game, a player needs to have completed at least one game on-site.
2. We currently run two games at a time. (Subject to change, depending on demand)
3. Anyone currently hosting a game cannot hold a slot on the hosting list. This rule is in effect only if the hosting list has 5 or more people signed up. Anyone not currently hosting a game will be placed in front of current hosts on the list.

Hosting list: - accurate as of post 246
3. Robbeasy (Bumped down two spots 06.06.11)
4. Ubivis (Bumped down two spots 06.06.11)
6. Zchinque
7. jesskitten
8. Rooshandark
9. Damnation
10. Damuna

Game rules: - The following rules cannot be overridden by individual moderators.

1. Cryptoclaiming is forbidden.
(I'll get back to exactly what cryptoclaiming entails, but in short it is having everyone fullclaim in some sort of (preferably nearly unbreakable) code, which makes it all but impossible for the mafia to win.

Damuna: Lynch scenes
How original... :/

Anyway, I'm done for now, so feel free to get discussing.
And feel free to sign up for hosting some mafia games!

Damuna: I was wondering whether it might be a good idea to stop people from playing in more than two games at once, as being in multiple games seems to reduce the amount of attention a player can give to a single game. (Mafia #3, has, for example, become a lot more active during Mafia #2's night phase.)

Also, shouldn't it be a site-wide rule that you cannot discuss a game currently in play (publicly/with its active players)?
As long as you don't mention your role in the game or give away anything I don't see the problem with it. Like if someone says Mafia Game#x is awesome dont'cha think what with the principal dying and whatnot? Stuff like that should be ok but outright spoilers not ok.

Damuna: GameRager, any public discussion of the game has the potential to directly interfere with the game - in the worst case, it can be used unscrupulously to cheat. If details from the game are leaked, the only option is then to close the game, ruining it for everybody. You don't know what "outright spoilers" may be.
Again, saying stuff like x game is sweet, dont'cha think? doesn't seem like a spoiler or that bad to me. And to imagine only the worst case scenarios only serves to show your pessimism.

Bahahahaha......but really what did you say? Probably something about the gloom and doom of saying anything about a game in progress like it's some sort of Oscars ballot count or election vote count or something.
Yeah, I definitely would be interested in running a game; I was thinking of doing one slightly sped up, if that would work. Late May at the earliest, I think; before that, I couldn't guarantee I would have the time for all the mod duties. But that should be about the time the current games finish, anyway.

Added you to the hosting list.

Anyone else wants to sign up while the list is still short? ;)

1. I'm not even in your little game, so the rules shouldn't apply to me. 2. Especially if all I want/am going to say is that game looks pretty cool.

Why Mafia 2 and not Mafia 3? Just curious.

I'd be interested in modding a game. I'd like some reviewing on the setup I have in mind too ;)
Speed games would be interesting too, whether it be via games that are say 1 week lynch deadline, or even real-time games where we meet on IRC to play.

Anyway, I find my time definitely suffers when I'm in both games at once since I tend to be wordy, sometimes I have something to say in one but not the other or don't have time to write in both at once, so I end up writing in neither because people seem to jump on the posting in one but not the other thing as "evidence".

I'd like to propose a rule for discussion too, that you are allowed to edit your post up to a couple minutes after posting, since there's no preview function. While you can't see the exact time, it should be fairly obvious when someone edits it a significant time after the original post.

Also, I'd be happy to help co-mod a game I'm not playing in, collecting/resolving order of night actions and doing regular votecounts, if a mod wants to run a game but doesn't care for that kind of bookkeeping. I love bookkeeping. :P And I think votecounts should be a commitment to the players, with lots of relevant details, so I can help you with that if you like.

No worries.
I probably won't get to take a good look at it until the weekend, though.
