It came out today but I can't find video of it. I want to see how "remastered" it is. Anyone got a link, or own it and can report about it?

Thanks.

Watch the gamespot review of Alice Madness. They show some footage. It basically looks the same but sports native widescreen resolutions.

And you can hack widescreen into the original I am pretty sure. Sounds disappointing.

Does the hack account for a 16:10 or 16:9 aspect ratio? That alone might make a remastered version worthwhile.
I don't remember how big of resolution you could get on Alice but I'm sure it was better than 1080 lines high, what's the point of a "HD" remake on a PC game? I mean if they packed in a bunch of updated, better textures, then okay, but otherwise...

You can adjust for proper widescreen and FOV just like any other Quake 3 engine game. The only difference being that Alice used a proprietary tool-set for Q3 engine that FAKK2 also used and this required the FOV setting to be bound to a key and initiated when the map loads.

Here's the Alice intro in 720p with proper aspect.
The only difference is that I hand-tweaked the pre-rendered cinematic parts for the intro otherwise they would've been 4X3 letterbox stretched.
I extracted those *.roq movies from the game files and rendered out all the frames individually. Then I rebuilt them properly upscaled and cleaned up with filters, etc. The rest is in-game footage.

Edit:
Here are some screenshots I took with the steam overlay at 1920X1080 with proper aspect.

HD is just a marketing term.
and if I'm not mistaken isn't the Alice 1 pack in only available with the PS3/360 versions?

(not that it matters, I still got my Alice 1 disks)

I have it for PC. Origin exclusive.

Anyway, basically it's just supports widescreen resolutions. I'm playing at 1680x1050 and it still looks like a Quake 3 game. And aside from the ground looking like crap, the textures are pretty good.

I have the original version, so basically I'm just wondering if it adds anything other than native widescreen. Does it have a new menu? Are those textures higher-res? Is the HUD smaller?

HUD's still huge. Menu is the same.

Textures being higher-resolution... I want to say yes. But don't take my word for it. Some of the textures I see surprise me for a game from 2000.

Kay... sounds like a pass for now then. I got the boxed edition anyway, I was just thinking they will probably put the original Alice up for sale after the bundle deal is over. I'll get it on sale eventually.

Thanks for the info, I'm still pretty new to the whole widescreen thing.

I was concerned as when I went to play through Doom3 again just recently, I discovered I had to set a cvar for 16x10 aspect ratio:

r_aspectRatio

That cvar was only added in the latest patch making its presence in earlier engines seem unlikely. I guess that's just for convenience and you can get the same effect by tweaking FOV. Learn something new every day. :)

You can just edit the ini once I believe, rather than messing with that stuff. Unless I am misunderstanding what you mean.

In any case, www.widescreengamingforum.com is the ultimate resource for running old games in wide resolutions.
With HampsterStyle's widescreen expertise, I was inspired to play the original release of American McGee's Alice. I've been enjoying myself so much that I broke down and purchased "Alice: Madness Returns - The Complete Collection" on Origin.

Anyways, for giggles I thought I'd compare the original with the version bundled with A:MR. As far as I can tell, they're functionally exactly the same. Shockingly, the bundled version doesn't even allow to me set widescreen in the menu ( though I'm sure a config file tweak would do the job). Perhaps the original is interfering with the bundled one but I doubt it. The only differences I can detect are a smaller executable and that it must be launched from A:MR.

I checked the game's description on the Origin storefront again and noticed this:
"Only available on Origin, the Complete Collection consists of Alice: Madness Returns™, Weapons of Madness and Dresses Pack, and the original American McGee’s Alice™!"

Hmmm... I don't think our platform got a remastered version. :/

Just thought I'd let you all know for the few who may still be on the fence. The bundle disappears tomorrow.
