Amneisa! Lready own that game and it's amazing, still so disturbing that it made my cry at a time... unhealthy experience. The penumbra series is it as good? Or good in other aspects?

a cool genre

Crying from amnesia? Damn, how old are you? if you don't mind me asking.
Here's few to try out:

Shira Oka - Second Chances
Mount&Blade - Warband (or the new expansion, fire & sword or smth)
Xenus 2 White Gold
Alpha Protocol
Company Of Heroes
Mass Effect 1 & 2
Elder Scrolls Oblivion
Jack Keane (pretty good point'n'click)

Beware, DMC3 is an excellent game but a very poor port.

Pretty much any Capcom game not ported by Capcom was a poor port. It was the extrememly poor sales and sloppy port Ubisoft made of Resident Evil 4 that forced Capcom to take a more direct control of their PC games. Seriously I don't even think it sold more than 50,000 copies which made Capcom think WHAT THE FUCK??

So when we play the good ports of Street Fighter IV, Devil May Cry 4, Resident Evil 5 and Lost Planet we can thank Ubisoft's ham-fisted incompetence.

?its a ported series alright but how a bad port? i found the special edition good it had good graphics for the time and controls were ok too i dont know how it qualifies for what you say?
Deus Ex. It's readily available on digital distribution, and since you like both RPG and FPS, it should be right up your alley.

Are you running Windows 7? I haven't tried the game on 7 yet, so maybe someone else can point out any potential problems.

I don't think DMC3:SE's graphics have ever looked good for a pc game. This game's strength lies in the mechanics and perhaps style.

Here are some highlights:

* no widescreen in 2006
* bad non mouseable ui with mysterious stock keyboard binds for menu navigation. expect to kill it with task manager the first time you run it. ;)
* alt-f4 to exit program
* crappy external gamepad configuration utility and no xbox360 pad support without editing config files
* move lists only lists instructions for default binds. useless.
* even if movelist updated to reflect your current binds, you'd be left with USB button numbers.
* game is unplayable without a gamepad. (this need not have been the case. Darksiders has serviceable keyboard and mouse input)

Don't get me wrong, I'd much rather play the PC port than the ps2 version but trying to set it up for the first time is a real PITA. Potential buyers should know this going in.
Wow, alpha protocol's a new one, what's so great bout that one?
