Lugamo: Most games that use Games for Windows Live can be played with a local profile. The only exception that has a single-player mode is Bulletstorm.

bansama: BulletStorm can be played with an offline profile now. It can also be played without an internet connection. Progress between offline and online accounts is shared too.

I found this out a few weeks back as GFWL told me there was a patch while I was playing BulletStorm. And when GFWL does that, it signs you out of your online account until after you patch. And all during that time BulletStorm remained playable. I then further tested this by disabling my internet with Comodo's block all function.

I then fired up BulletStorm while offline and after an extended wait (obviously the time out period for not reaching GFWL) it loaded up and was playable just fine.
Thank you for posting about this! I didn't have the game installed, so I had no idea, but this is very awesome news!

Strijkbout: The funny thing is that all the things I hated about GFWL like being bloatedly present in your game and such have gradually found their way to Steam.
Frankly the thing I preferred in GFWL over Steam was what you call "bloated". The interface felt slick, nice and polished - browsing your achievements and buddies was fun - and receiving an achievement was a beautiful event with it's nice POPup and its friendly rewarding sound. To this day Steam's overlay looks like something a teen with some programming skills forced upon games that weren't ever meant to have that kind of stuff (even in case of native Steamworks games!). It's cheap, ugly and on top of that unresponsive. GFWL had technical issues of its own kind and suffered from lots of wasted potential but already the day it was introduced it *felt* more professional than anything Steam has to offer after more than ten years and despite being da boss in digital distribution and third party services for game developers.

To clarify, a local profile is a separate profile made through the new account window. You're talking about using an existing Live profile without an internet connection. This is not the same type of account.

DarkoD13: I can only assume that people hating on Bulletstorm have never experienced kicking someone in the face, shooting them in the head with a flare and then watching them explode into fireworks in the sky.

Grargar: I did and I was particularly unimpressed. The game felt to me like glorified achievement hunting.
What do you think an FPS that focuses on pulling off trick shots should feel like? ;)

Awesome! Thanks for letting me know.

Edit: Nevermind.

Yeah, but as long as the profile you're using lets you play w/o worrying about connecting GFWL to the internet, it should be fine, right?

I thought maybe they had patched it so it was just about bypassing the shell of GFWL to access the game, but the client itself was inactive. I guess I misread because I am just really hoping for a fix here :\

At the very least, people have till July to play the game, but this is awful.

It's the same difference. The game will play without you signed into that profile (if there is no connection to GFWL). It will also play without an internet connection. Meaning that once GFWL is gone, it's still playable if it's installed - which is the case for any GFWL game regardless of profile type.
