I think there will be more chatter once they finally flip the switch and kill it off. If Dark Souls doesn't get an update and completely loses all online functionality, heads should roll.

With the way things are timing out it's very easy for them to say if someone loves the game so much then just buy DS2 or find a console copy. That's not what I want to hear, but I think that is what is going to happen.

i believe most single player games can be ported over entirely to steamworks or that gfwl /cd check stripped out . but those games that have multiplayer dependent on gfwl will be hard and costly to port over, some might prefer dropping those games outright.
f12010 and f12011 hang in the balance codemasters might port em or drop em

Ive seen a couple of achievements recently pop up on steam for Dawn of War 2's expansion Chaos Rising so it looks like Relic might be slowly preparing to de-gwfl DoW2.

The Gamespy shutdown is making bigger waves since Nintendo based its first foray into online (Nintendo WFC) on that platform.

If I remember correctly the DSFix utility completely removd GFWL. been awhile since I played it though.
I resisted SSFIV and Street Fighter x Tekken during the holiday sales because Capcom doesn't seem interested in fixing it. Without online multiplayer their appeal is limited.

I hope it will be a complete disaster, just to remember the people saying that online-forced games are not "such a big deal" in this time and age. They are stupid, and they should feel stupid.

No big deal for GOGers. Most of us are too outside these systems to care, many of us actually wish for these problems to occure in the worst way possible, in order to comfort our stance with a told-you-so.
Such news will be met with apathy or irony, mostly, around here.

I always made sure that whenever I was buying a game with GfWL, it didn't have SSA, so that I could continue to install and play the game if an event like this ever happened. So no, it's not a big deal to me because I can still create an offline profile and play what I paid for without any 3rd party server connection.
And this.
And this.

I tried to find a link and failed, but the creator of "Defenders Quest" made a video about DRM talking about three currencies people weigh when deciding if a DRM games is worth it to them - cost being one of them. I'm not as ridged as I used to be, so if something is low enough and high end enough then I will consider it and I think there are enough people here that work the same way to have a conversation about it - provided there is anything to talk about.
I guess we will just end up waiting and seeing what goes down. It's not that far away. It will be interesting month with the GameSpy thing going down a few weeks before.

Since they are busy with DS2 I'm not expecting an answer right now, but they'll have to do something about the situation.

Is it just not a big deal? Too early to talk about? Are companies right in thinking nobody cares so why bother, or do games actually need to stop working before people would even take notice their games were making ticking noises?
