Cool. Thank you. Like I said on the comments page, I'm a huge SaGa fan and TLR was one of my favorite games this generation, and I wouldn't mind giving the PC version a try but I couldn't really justify paying full price for the game again when I paid full price when it came out for the 360 and the price on steam just hasn't dropped.

Snickersnack: It must have really bombed. They never ended up porting it to the ps3. That means Squenix made a big budget JRPG that most of the japanese market never got a chance to play.

My guess is that they've all but abandoned it. :/
From what I've read it actually sold decently and received good reviews in Japan (better than the reviews outside of Japan). It reportedly sold 580,000 copies (both console and PC) by 31 March 2009 (which was four months since the console release and less than two weeks since the PC release).

As of right now, there's 1,780 entries and there's about 8 hours left. I'm wondering if it'll exceed 2,000. In any case, this is the most entries of all 7 giveaways I've created.

I played it on the 360 at release, I really enjoyed it, a nice mix of JRPG and Strategy, the PC version is supposed to be the best version. I wont be entering, but its a great prize for who ever wins it.

Wow, 580K!! That's an insane. This article from April 2009 says the 360 had just passed one million unit sold in Japan.

It makes me wonder why Squenix ditched the PS3 port. Difficulty with UE3 and the PS3 maybe?

Adamantios: Some of you may recall that I made a last month. Well, I've created a new game giveaway, this time for "The Last Remnant", which anyone with a Steam account can enter and win here: [url=http://www.steamgifts.com/giveaway/RYlrd/the-last-remnant]http://www.steamgifts.com/giveaway/RYlrd/the-last-remnant. The giveaway begins 17 February at 11:30 PM and ends at 20 February 11:30 AM.

As stated in the giveaway's description, "For those unfamiliar with the game, it's an epic, Japanese-style role-playing game with an anime/manga art-style set in a distinctive fantasy world".
May I ask where did you buy it that cheap?

already got the game and having played both the xbox 360 and PC versions for ~same amount of time, I can say that the PC version is better. The console version has you limited to a certain # of "leaders" per union and only english audio while the PC version had english and japanese audio as well as no leader limit (the limit removal made the Gates of Hell boss a LOT less hell in the PC version). However, I would recommend playing it with a xbox 360 controller.
its a really good game, I have the boxed retail (yes its a steam game) and played it alot but uninstalled it for some reason.

Not sure. Maybe they intended it to be a Xbox 360 exclusive from the start? A lot of games, but not all, that are released as Xbox 360 exclusives are also released for PC -- which is one of the reasons I chose to get a PlayStation 3 over a Xbox 360, to ensure greater access to games. (That said, I mostly play PC games.)

You can find "The Last Remnant" for as low as $9 on amazon.com (at least right now). That's where I bought my copy but mine was a few dollars more expensive. There are two versions available: the American version and the English version. The American version is typically a few dollars more expensive but, besides that, there are no differences between the games.

Oh, by the way, it turns out that the giveaway generated 2,439 entries! That's almost double the entries for my last public giveaway.

The SaGa series is fairly popular in Japan (with even some "SaGa only" fan conventions to celebrate the anniversary of the release of various game in the series) and I do remember seeing that a PS3 version of TLR was on some magazine's "most wanted" lists a while back.

I would assume that it's probably a hardware limitation and the performance would have been closer to the 360 version (which struggles quite a bit unless you install) than a system with more available memory or something. And performance was probably the most notable criticism when it was released.
