Paul_cz: In my humble opinion GOG folks should really stop rejecting games being offered...we GOG fans (hopefully) want as many (good) games here as possible..right?
The "(good)" part is the problem. I suppose places like GamersGate never rejected anybody, and well, it shows.

Regardless of what they decide to do, consistency is the only thing that really matters. So far, the system has been very opaque.

Imo gog wants to sell only good games.. thats why if there is discount for games, its always discount for 5games 3games..
imagine discount with hundred of unknown games..

thats why i NEVER check gamersgate discount games, direct2drive or other..
Sooo, we either bitch about that not only old games are released or we bitch about not enough indies are getting released. So what now?!

Honestly, I never wanted GOG to become another DD for medicore indie games. Yes, unepic might be great, but so gar GOG has only chossen high quality indie game. If I want experiments, I will go to Desura. Ones the game has proven itself, they can reaplly. I want a GOG seal of quality.

And, wow, staggering 77 votes on the wishlist...

wpegg: All strikes me as a very malicious piece of press grabbing.
Either that or he simply hasn't paid any attention to GOG in the past few months. If he hasn't seen the change in direction he might think that the answer he got over a year ago is still relevant today.

StingingVelvet: GOG rejected my paper, rock, scissors text adventure! Fuckers!

Kezardin: Include some of these variations and resubmit ☺
Don't forget RPS101.

We'll just go back to regular bitching about everything else. I am sure I can bitch about the Euro or some other stock topic...

That's the craziest thing to ever crazy its way into existence.

Might I recommend bitching about bitching. It's kind of meta, but you never run out of things to bitch about once you start.

I could bitch about those who bitch about other people bitching. Double meta :P

To be honest, that's annoys me more then everything else here, but it seems that becomes a regular part of many threads. It's an interesting topic to understand how GOG choose a game. I don't need to have Unepic here, because I already bought it directly from the developer, but I think it's interesting to get some views behind the scenes to understand some mechanisms.
My experience with Unepic wasn't very good when I was playing it. The balance was off in the hardest difficulty, due to how easy it was to get stunlocked to death, and was bit on the grindy side. The was also some kind of password system for specific items and pets, which you apparently could only be attached to a single playthrough, as I understand it. (Meaning that on a fresh playthrough, you can't get those things. ever.) Another issue was with skills and spells, in that even if you invest into a skill, spellbooks relating to that skill are fixed in where they appear - so you might have to look up a guide to know in advance to know when and where to invest them.

Unepic has 70 votes on the wishlist... I can't argue that the game reminds me of Castlevania.... But as SimonG said... it's better to see proven games from proven devs, than see a flaming thread afterwards....
I guess this was a tactical decision. Or are we back to Good Old Games?

mushy101: Looking at the reception of Soul Reaver and Quest for Glory, plus the sheer post counts of each threads, that really isn't the case.

hedwards: Hmm, you do realize that QfG has a pretty massive following, right? I'm less familiar with Soul Rever, but it's silly to point to those two releases and say that it isn't something to worry about. You're already seeing it on days where there are no retro games released in lieu of newer games or independent games.

I still maintain that it was a bad idea to rebrand the site and lose focus on retro gaming. It may work, but I'm skeptical about how long it will work for.

I question how any of the hidden gems here could possibly compete with some of the newer games being released.
QFG was a series I never heard of until I saw it on here days ago. GoG has again (never heard of PS:T) informed of a hidden gem. A gem that garnered a lot of attention on the forums. Obviously we cannot tell exact sales figures for each game, but I clearly remember Soul Reaver sitting atop the charts for a good while. Not just a flash in the pan 2 hours, but quite a few days. Even longer then Alan Wake. Apart from Alan Wake and the discussion about RC3's price, the older games almost always get a higher post count in the threads and people usually buy them more. Yes, this is partly guesswork, but we only have the info presented to us to base my opinion off.

In fact, following the level of interest and sales chart, it's games like Soul reaver that made money for GoG much more then say, The whispered world. Even though the second is newer, more 'relevant' and garnered quite a bit of praise in reviews. Same for the recent Indie games, all good releases, but by far the community preferred the 'older' ones. The Whispered world didn't make much of a splash when it was released here. Apart from Legend of Grimrock, (maybe) the HOMM and AC bundle and AW none of the newer games really gained traction in both community discussion/buying interest and sales. I'd suspect Botanicula could've, but it was nipped in the bud by HIB.

You are quite right to be a skeptic, since this model of business is unproven and a unknown quantity in terms of success for us and GoG.

mushy101: snip
AC,HOMM & AW made traction cause of the price they were released on... Alan Wake is a steal for 15$... and Grimrock was highly anticipated.

Btw everybody is forgeting one thing... GOG have to release a big amount of old games from the publishers on board.
Tomb Rider series,Leisure Suite Larry series, complete the started series - Hitman,Deus Ex,Zeus... so this is for the best maybe...
