Hey la,

I don't lick cluttering up my desktop with hundreds and thousands of random icons so I'm glad that GOG installers allow me to deselect this option. However, it never remembers my preference so every time I have to deselect it. Could this be changed for future versions?
I never liked licking clutter either.

I know right? Give me something to really get my tongue excited.
I don't use shortcuts for any games. I navigate to the actual .exe file and execute it.
You can just delete the shortcuts rather quickly, just select and ctrl + del.

That's what I'm talking about! If I change the install directory then future installers will remember that. If I change the desktop icon option it forgets it the next time.

It's one of those small annoyances that irritates. Google calls 'em "paper cuts".

That doesn't work for me. By the time I get in and find the right exe I no longer want to play that game. And no this isn't one of my A-typical goof off posts, I mean that. :D
For some reason, the thread title brings to mind the glorious recursive Revenge of the Sith translation. You know, the one with "Do Not Want".

That would probably mean GOG would have to leave some registry entry or something behind, to remind itself which my preference is for any GOG installer. And at least I don't want that, I don't want GOG (or anyone else for that matter) leave that kind of arbitrary clutter on my Windows system. But, maybe they could have it optional, like "Do you want GOG installers to remember your preferences?" etc. Ok then.

The a little complaint: I'm pretty sure GOG games create the desktop shortcut icon even though I specifically told them not to create it. At least I now see Far Cry 2 and KKND 2 icons on my desktop, although I'm pretty sure I told them not to create them. But it is possible I made a mistake, and it isn't that hard to delete the unused desktop icons. No biggie.

GOG already leave "clutter" behind. Look at HKLM\SOFTWARE\GOG.com. I'd prefer they'd use an xml file but whatever.

I would agree it could be a tick box "remember my preferences" or something like that.

I don't know if I am misunderstanding something, but I don't seem to have GOG.com in the registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\, even though I've installed a bunch of GOG games here.

I searched the whole registry for "gog", and only saw a couple of GOG downloader entries there.

But either way, no to clutter. :)

Are you maybe using 1.0 installers? I have, for example:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\GOG.com]
"DefaultPackPath"="C:\GOG Games\"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\GOG.com\GOGBOUT]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\GOG.com\GOGDOSBOX]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\GOG.com\GOGPACKBOUT]

...And much more.

I'm with you, I do not see how that is possible. Once I am two folders in My Computer, I have most likely forgotten what I was going to launch. And yes I do have shortcuts (16 Games), in an orderly fashion, thrown on my desktop.

You neat and tidy people can keep your clean desktop, I like my desktop to be the pigsty it is.
