A few weeks ago, AGDi/Himalaya announced that their new Quest for Glory inspired Adventure/RPG game, Mage’s Initiation, had been Greenlit on Steam, and inevitably, questions about a GOG release were asked. Now, I already knew that GOG had previously rejected AGDi/Himalaya when they submitted Al Emmo and the Lost Dutchman’s Mine, but I'm still a tad surprised about their refusal of Mage's Initiation.

Prodding GOG about the issue merely got me (unsurprisingly) what can at best be described as a dismissive automated reply. Meanwhile, AGDi/Himalaya claims they didn’t get far into discussions before GOG turned them away, and there is clearly a tone of frustration and resignation from them over the matter.

If you’ve been here for a while and frequent the forums you know this story already, we’ve heard it numerous times; indie devs eager to get on GOG brushed off seemingly inexplicably. Without knowing the details, we can only speculate and voice our desire to see Mage's Initiation released here in the hopes someone at GOG takes note.

I often see AGDi’s VGA remakes of King’s Quest 1-3 and Quest for Glory 2 discussed in these forums, so I know there must be interest among many of you to see Mage's Initiation released here. I encourage everyone that wants to see Mage’s Initiation available on GOG to vote the game up on the wishlist (there's two entries, vote on both, I suppose) and message GOG directly about it.

UPDATE EDIT: The blues have spoken! Children's game blamed for misunderstanding and miscommunication.

I really don't like this GOG, I'd love to have both games here.
Al Emmo isn't a huge loss IMO, but Mage's Initiation does show a real promise I was expecting from the group after those fantastic King's Quest and Quest For Glory 2 remakes.
We see a lot more cases of GOG rejecting stuff like this. What the hell?
Looks attractive. I think I'd like to play it.

Still, near as I can figure out, they've only completed one of four acts so far. I can understand GOG holding back until it is more complete.
I'm getting increasingly frustrated with Gog. Indie devs get rejected and big publishers who insist on regional pricing are now allowed.

Would u rather they opened the floodgates and become the drm free Apple or Google play store where 99% of games are....lets face it. Shit :D

Was the dev given a reason why the game got rejected?

*IF* it's something like this then it's cool with me.

GOG is not Kickstarter. I for one prefer completed releases here.

Blagh. Not EVERYTHING is bad. I wouldn't mind spreading the love.
It would be better if GOG didn't outright reject games so much as put them on a waitlist, if quality control is the concern.

Edit: http://www.redshift.hu/ The Quest for reference, rejected by GOG. Love the heck out of this game.

Nope. Quoting Christopher Warren (aka. AGD #2);

"I'd love to say that GOG gave us a concise, logical answer that we're not at liberty to talk about, but truth be told, we didn't even get that far into the discussions with them. Yes, they were that dismissive. This came as a pretty big surprise, as I was expecting them to be the most accepting portal, based on a combination of factors like AGDI/Himalaya's track record, our mutual goal of focusing on old games, and the amount of new customers we've drawn to their site. I've always loved GOG and what they do and it was immensely disappointing to have such inane decision-making sully the beginning of what would and should have been a very strong, long-term relationship. "

Gog opened the door for episodic games last year, though. Cognition and Broken Sword 5 were both sold as a season pass. That shouldn't be a reason to reject the game.

Yeah that's the problem with "opening doors". They turn into a slippery slope. :)
