Rusty_Gunn: mind if I disagree with your points here? iMHO it's the publishers leading the way towards total steamification & many gamers have been indoctrinated into thinking that's how PC gaming should be. but here's the clincher if Steam does pull it off, Steam loses as anti-monopoly laws would go into effect. so it is in our best interest to continue the fight if we want a future for this industry
Everything I read, watch or listen to that relates to PC gaming outside of this forum is super pro-Steam and totally in love with it. On pretty much every other forum I go to I am known as the weird Steam hater, because I mention things like "all eggs in one basket" and "buying this on GOG for DRM free." Every journalist video I watch treats Steam as the entire platform, they never mention anything else. Games do not exist and are not worth covering unless they are on Steam.
So I find the idea that a majority hate it but are forced to use it as rather silly. I guess I could be wrong, we'd need millions of dollars and world-wide research to really say, but I don't think I am. There's quite a lot of social evidence backing me up and outside of this forum not a lot to back up your hypothesis. Still... crazier things have happened, etc. etc.
And P.S. I don't think monopoly laws apply that way, otherwise Xbox games working online on Xbox would be a monopoly. Big Fish games working only on bigfish, etc. etc. Steam is one gaming platform selling Steam games.
