As I said, I would agree with you if we were talking about any other DD site.

But with sale 50% off, GOG is selling games for 3$ and 5$.

They sold 35k Witcher 2 copies, and it's tenth bestselling game (not counting freebies or those games which were free at some point).

That means most games on GOG won't sell, even with promo sale, better than 5k-25k copies (at this moment. As GOG gets more users, it will be better).

When they lower price from 6$ to 3$ just to sell 500 copies (I'm not talking about bestsellers like fallout or bg here) they just get 1500$, and it's just not worth it.

If Steam sells 1 mln copies of a game for 2$, it's still 2 mln $ (and Steam has 2,5 mln users online every day). That's why crazy sale on Steam is profitable (and that's how IndieRoyal or HIB works - just different scale), and on GOG - it's profitable, but it's just not worth to.

GOG makes money on new releases, when mainly US residents (and to be fair - some western Europeans too) spend their money because of nostalgia, and they buy those games at full price.

Promo sales on GOG are mainly for ppl from poor countries, or for US/western Europe unemployed ppl. Or cheapskates.

You are, again, correct. But why making 1500$ is worse than making none ?

In digital distr. server capacity is amortised with each sold copy as I understand it.

And as far as i remember, gog staff told us that when they made "50% off whole catalogue" they made more money than ever in that short period of time.

Making a sale still seems to be more profitable than not making one.

And it seems like it, because gog is about to announce something big 8th Dec? Im just curious why they decided to make it on 8th, not 1st like everybody did.

and for example, games like Lords of the reaml 1 simply NEED to be on sale. To be displayed on the front page. To insist people's feelings like "im making some savings by buying this right now". In other case, they won't sell at all.

Well, it's not worse, it's just not as good as selling 1mln games for 2 bucks.

And if they make constant crazy sale, they'll spoil us, and we won't buy GOG games for the full price. I only bought Fallout 1 and 2 and Heroes Chronicles for full price. But I live in a poor country.

Anyway - GOG is doing sales, and last year GOG made a sale way before anyone else. They have something different for this year, or maybe it's that other DD sites feel competetive this year.

Don't get me wrong - I'm waiting for a sale, and I have big plans for it, but I don't think there's real difference if they start it at 1st of December, or it will be 8th of December. But maybe it's because I don't care about Steam, GG or Impluse, as I just don't buy there.

Man, you're getting me tired for being right all along :P

And Im happy for you as a devoted GOG buyer. I like playing games in general and I have to split my budget across many platforms (and indie bundles recently) so it's much harder for me :) (5 bucks for Cossacks + American Conquest anthology on steam was insane!)

And I hope GOG will strike is with something big 8th Dec, because I love playing old games much more than playing new ones.

My wishlist holds around 30 games now so I think something from it will go on sale soon.

Thanks for converastion.
