summitus: I think you might be forget just what a Beomoth Steam is ..... I'll tell you one thing, I had a shop once and I tried to copy the big competition down the road ... and guess what they are still there and I am not ..... ;-)
I also believe that gog folks know what they're doing, but I just can't understand that :P

IMHO they may lost a lots of revenue by waiting and doing nothing while all the competition goes crazy with sales. (because many customers will leave their money there and won't have anything more for good old games ;) )

Can I say thank you for always correcting people on this? It bothers me, too! :)

keeveek: Sorry, no place for patience in consumptionism. All I know is i managed to save some money and I look what I can buy for it And if you track recent dollar - zloty exchange ratio i wouldn't be patient at all :D It's freaking 3.32 and several months ago it was 2.72 :P

btw. even Dotemu has advent callendar right now. So argument "gog is too small for making this" is also invalid.

And yes, in business like this in most cases when you start a sale a week after competition you are LATE. people's wallets are not bottomless, so they are going to choose. Gog is excluding itself from choice. It's simple as that.
I was going to respond to this above but after reading this:

keeveek: It's a wise thing to do to copy the best. (Valve i mean)
I have nothing to add as I am not going to discuss with such dedicated person :)

Hehe, yes, you can :D ;) It is not always as I cant read everything but at most I'm trying to :P

It is like comparing big network of food selling shops to home made food.
Biggest is not always the best. Biggest is cheap, but sometimes it is much better to choose something less popular. This is really the end of discussion for me if the other side of it can not understand such simple things.

Yeah, it's you who cannot understand we are not talking about cuisines/ personal taste, but SALES on GAMES and MAKING MONEY on them. And Steam is definitely the best at this part. GOG.com is definitely the best in community-friendly distr. , but that's not what we're talking about for 3 pages now.

Hmmm , I think you seem determined to stick with this silly idea you have , that just because Steam or Dotemu have a sale that GOG should just copy them ... but I do think you are in a very small (teeny weeny ) group that might feel the same .... just remember GOG is very unique and not jumping on the bandwagon like all the other sites is one of the things that make them unique. If your sooo desperate for a sale well go to Dotemu or Steam or GG .

But alas you dont seem to taking notice of anything anyone is saying .. so I'm probably wasting my time .

And I will do all of that. I am not the one who stated "Gog will be first alternative to steam OMG ZOMG" in press conference lately ;)

It's what you have been talking about for 3 pages now. What other people are talking about, is that GOG is about quality, about serving gamers who don't like DRM, who like old games, who like a nice atmosphere. So no, being the biggest with the most sales doesn't mean your the best, it often implies they're the meanest (pun intended) in there policies.

It's like where do I want to buy my food: in a big supermarkt part of a mega-chain with lots of discounts on the most popular products ('the best' in your way of thinking), or with a smaller store part of a small chain that specializes in bio-organic foods, that takes into consideration the impact the foods they sell have on the environment, on the budgets of european or third world farmers that produce the foods. It may be more expensive, but the second kind of store is what I vote for with my money and I don't care about the discounts of the big market chains.

You don't understand. Being the best in some kind/genre/market doesn't mean you're the best at all.

And saying that copying steam sales is not copying from the best (in sales "genre") is just as false as it could be.

I think the topic is over now.

Valve/Steam is the best at making money. Deal with it. And that's all I was talking about, you fanboys ;)

btw. because of today's LAME sale on steam I just bought Tropico Reloader here on GOG. So im going to play now, cheers ;)

I think this post you have made Sums you up , but I guess thats a typical reaction of someone that has no basis for their argument ... seems you have taken the immature route out of the conversation by insulting us all and throwing your toys out of the Pram ;-)
Read all my arguments based on basic rules of marketing being taught in elementary school

Read yours which is "Gog is different and should not copy others!!!1oneone"

The problem you don't see is that GOG is not Steam, so the best way for making money that works for Steam or other DD sites may be not the best way for making money by GOG.

GOG is not Steam, so crazy sales (or sales at all) works different way.

For most GOG customers (US residents) GOG prices are cheap by default, so crazy sales are only additional "ah, it's so cheap I have to buy it".

But for Steam, it's not only way of making money, it's a way to bind customers to the service.

To sum up - Steam is the best at making money, but the way they did it, would work for GOG only if they were the same business model.

When you take into consideration that GOGs way is completely different, then your solution is just wrong.
SLP2000, you are correct. But I believe some basic rules are applying to others as well.

Gabe Newell said once that making 75% sale on a game makes them 3000% (three thousand - sic!) jump in revenue that day.

I believe that simple numbers like "30% off!" and other are more encouraging for people than simple 5.99$ price all over the world.

And it's proven that "constant sale" or "each day new deal" model is THE BEST model possible for making money. For at least one hell of a reason - it gives you a reason to visit a store page each day

Or my economics professor is just simply wrong.

Hmmm , to be honest Its seems like you havn't read anyone else's posts ... "sigh"

And I also think that GOG's marketing skills are doing really quite well .. dont you think ... over 6 Million downloads says they know a little more than you about it ;-)
