A post in the lulzsec thread reminded me that I'd been meaning to watch Johnny Mnemonic. Having watched it, all I want to know is how did I not get around to watching that movie sooner. It's not a brilliant film, but if you get it, the movies is quite good. The director, in my view, definitely succeeded in getting the aesthetic for the movie right, right down to the purposefully stiff performances of all the actors.

Finally a film where Keanu has to actively work at being more wooden in his work.

Hackers, was definitely in that sort of category as well, if you don't appreciate the parody, it's a pretty awful film, but through the power of parody, it takes on a really entertaining quality that mocks the non-computer literate folks foolish enough to try and watch it.

And, while we're on about movies that have terrible and dated CG effects, The Lawn Mower man was actually a pretty good ride, despite the poor quality CG effects, there was plenty of philosophy involved to at least make one think twice before trying to better somebody for their own good.
Poor Job........which is a reference to the whole Book of Job imo...how a "rich" man(in being simple and nearly problem free in a way) gets torn down(enlightened) by God(the scientist) who thinks he's doing good/proving his superiority by proving a point(his theory to the company and himself) all to see who's dick is bigger in a stupid contest(scientific/corporate progress).

The Bible is full of lessons. Also gratuitous sex and violence as well. It's not a surprise that so many movies have their roots in there or reference to it.
I seem to vaguely remember that. Was Johnny Mnemonic the movie about an amnesiac and his mental microwave dolphin companion?

Did this dolphin make popcorn?

Sort of. Johnny had a large section of his memory erased so that he could get an implant to act as a courier for data. The data was stored in his brain disguised as a legal accommodation for a disability.

And yes there is a dolphin at some point. Don't want to spoil it for anybody that hasn't seen it.

The cast was pretty interesting as well. In addition to Keanu, there were Henry Rollins, Dolf Lundgren and Ice-T.

It does seem to be one of those movies where if you get it, it's pretty amazing conceptually, but if you don't get it or don't follow it, it's complete crap.

Also, I had to LOL at the storage capacity of his head, 80gb doubled to 160gb.
Ginger Snaps is cult fun at its finest. Def recommend if you like werewolf movies. Very B-ish, clever and funny but also horrific. If you like it and want to buy it but live in the United States, you'll have to order the Canadian version for widescreen and special features, tho. (It's a Canadian film; the American release is fullscreen with little or no features.)

Please, please don't forget that Takeshi Kitano played the yakuza killer in that movie.

Ice-T has been a LOT of godawfully shit movies over the years. And I'm saying that as one who sat through "Plan 9 From Outer Space", and Kevin Costmore's "Waterworld". He makes those movies palatable. He's better in Law&Order:SVU....but not by much, TBH.

Johnny Mnemonic was released in the mid-90s? Just about as...what? 1-2GBs? were becoming cheap enough for the average person to think of using? (my first 2GB drive cost me £120!! back then), and the story was written 10 years or so earlier when GB drives were a wet dream....if that? Watching now with TB drives becoming standard, it's small potatoes, but back then? a drive for 80GB in a futuristic setting was more or less believable! :P

Troll 2

It's the best worst movie I've ever seen. I seriously recommend this one to all of you who enjoy watching bad movies, you'll have a blast! There aren't even any trolls or any mention of trolls in it - it's about vegetarian goblins who turn people into plants before eating them.
