And by that i mean the same layout, So you buy a album it will show it up in your library DRM free (most music does tend to be anyway i think) and you can download the covers too :P

Not to mention unlimited downloads

Theres a site that i love that sells a lot of music i like, (odd stuff) but it only lets you download 3 times from a email link.

If there actually is any music site like this let me check it out.
Amazon.com is pretty awesome.

Damn.
or movie site. I'm not a big fan of amazon for downloadable stuff, if anyone has suggestions for something similar please let me know.
I only know 7digital.com who offers unlimited downloads and a library (maybe some indie labels shops, too).

Edit: Like for GOG the biggest problem is to get all different labels on board. I really hope more smaller labels will start their own digital shops, but lately they only link me to iTunes and there are no other digital shops (except sometimes amazon.com but not the german page). I don't know if it's a negative trend or it's only me that labels or artists don't use direct distribution like bandcamp or topspin anymore.

Edit2: Needed to correct myself and removed the part about eMusic, because I forgot they changed their policy from unlimited downloads to only a few. I left eMusic maybe a year ago for some other reasons.

Hayst: or movie site.
Oh dear god, yes. The lengths one has to go in Germany to get hold of even relatively well known stuff like Chelsea Girls or Flowers of Shanghai...

Honestly, a GOG for movies that aren't readily available on DVD (DRM and region free, reasonably priced, interesting bonus content) would be the greatest thing in the world. Someone make it happen. Now.

I would so love that, but unfortunately, from what my lawyer friends tell me, it seems to be legally unworkable. The system of contracts for the regional distribution of films and music is very old, complex and just plain crazy, and there is an insane amount of parties involved. A few orders of magnitude worse than what GOG has to deal with, which (as they'd probably be the first to tell you) must be absolutely maddening.

Piracy? And I'm not kidding, the most succesful digital online shops have basically copied the pros of piracy (Amazon, GOG). They offer a hassle free (no DRM) easy to use catalogue for hard to get items available anywhere.

The current situation for digital movies in Germany is ridicoulus. Music is hardly any better. And thanks to regional restrictions, we can't legally use the good sources in the US.
Bandcamp is basically like GOG.

but without a library and the option for re-download. I see it more like kickstarter, because unsigned artists get the chance to sell their products.

You can always redownload from the e-mail that gets sent to you.

Ah, good to know. Never tried that. Thanks.

Well, that sucks. And I guess goes some way to explain why movies haven't come as far as music and games in terms of digital distribution. Which is such a crying shame, since we live in a world where it's almost impossible to get a physical copy of the best known movie by a guy as exceedingly famous as Andy Warhol.

We Germans sure do tend to get the short end of the digital distribution stick. No indexed Steam games either.

I just wished I could buy a musician's back library digitally with a good discount on top.

I'd pay like £30 for all of X artists albums so far.
(£40 for a big band like Iron Maiden/Blue Oyster Cult ect.)

They could throw in extras like, demos, live stuff, videos, bonus materials in certain albums as PDFs, Jpegs ect.

Thats what music/films/TV series need to be.
Just easy, convenient, and nicely packaged.

(No worries about DRM, Piracy, or those stupid "best of" collections that are just plain outdated by today's standards! >:/)

(I for one would love to buy a TV series for like $10-$20 but could download it for a variety of formats! Pre-converted at nice quality. Save me some good time! :D)

It's funny how the film indusrty is hurting itself more and more just because it wants to be restrictive. A movie site like gog would possibly be a gold mine, especially since there's no competition, and it's something every average joe could appreciate from the hardcore cinephile to the casual moviegoer.

But of course, we can't have nice things, nosir.
