Muttala: I was the person the other way, a new SMAC like game excite me a lot more :) ... is there ?
Yes the previously mentioned Pandora is a spiritual remake.
Titans of Steel is mech based free(!) game in spirit of mechwarrior. Its ofcourse more tactical than strategic, but nice game if youre into mechs.

Titans of Steel sounds awesome, I will try it.

waluigi: @cmdr_flashheart - But isn't Smugglers V something like Space Rangers? I like this series, but it is for sure something different than turn-based strategy, it is rather some specific mix of cRPG, tactical game, economical game... Well, it is some specific mix, but for sure Space Rangers isn't the turn-base strategy.

...
You're right, it's not a tbs in a traditional sense, but there are turn-based elements, which made me think of it.

Here's the other one I mentioned: http://store.steampowered.com/app/208140/

Hello,

It is an old game and a 4x mammoth. Emperor of the fading suns. It is a 4x grand strategy game with different factions, technology tree, space combat, planet invasion, land battles on hexagon battlefields, detailed planetary maps without east-west link. It is from 1996.

Perhaps you are looking for X-com? It has a scifi setting, a grand strategy world map, tactical battles, base building technology research and air combat. But what i am blubbering, everyone knows X-com.

Have a nice day.

mystikmind2000: Looks interesting except i despise too much randomness/luck in my strategy games. Because luck and i are not friends.... If the movie 'Final destination' was about mystical forces bending random chance for petty annoyances, not to harm people, then that's my life right there!

jamotide: You would love Desktop Dungeons, there you can calculate entire battles down to the last HP before they start.
There are many games with random elements, most of them generally behave themselves quite well and do not slap me in the face with bad luck very often at all. For example, Civ2, Civ3 and Civ5 behave themselves. But Civ4 is a HUGE face slapper with bad luck - i have to keep my finger on the reload button for that prick of a game.
