First of all - I really like turn-based strategy like Eador, Age of Wonders(1), Heroes of Might (2,3 & 4), and Disciples (1 & 2). Well, it is not too hard to find really good turn-based strategy, with "fantasy theme", and still "becoming" new titles (Age of Wonders 3 is coming :)).

BUT - I'm looking for something similar to these games, but with sci-fi theme (it may be "classic" sci-fi, but also "
"apocalyptic", I don't have nothing against). The game/s I'm looking should:

- be STRATEGIES, not tactical games (because we've got some nice tactical sci-fi titles, like Incubation or Aerena, or in some way Gorky 17)
- I'm NOT looking for games like Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri, because they're "economy-oriented", I'm looking for
"war-oriented" strategies (like a couple of titles I've mentioned at the beginning)
- it would be good if this/these game/s wouldn't be created earlier than 1997/96
- this can be "commercial" or indie title, it doesn't matter

I've already tried Future Wars, Battle Isle series and Battle World: Kronos, but none of them satisfied me. M.A.X. series is quite nice, but it's still not the title I'm looking for.

Thank you for any advices and tips, and sorry if I made some mistakes (english is not my native language)

So no Master of Orion either?:)
Yes, Master of Orion is not "qualified", Galactic Civilization also not (while I like the last one, it is not the title I'm looking for).

Ascendancy -> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ascendancy_%28video_game%29

Granted, it also is about eceonomy and research, but you can outfit each of your ships individually and
the combat was tense and fun.

or

Fallen Haven -> http://michaeldebevec.com/art/review/160/fallen-haven-pc/

Even more war oriented.

This probably doesn't count either. http://pandora.proxy-studios.com/

Hey, isn't that something like Warlock: Master of the Arcane? If yes, I think that it could be the title I'm looking for (in Warlock economy is much simplified in comparision to Alpha Centauri or Master of Orion, and I really like Warlock!)

But if it is rather similar to Alpha Centauri, then I'll pass.

How about Missionforce: Cyberstorm? It's about buying and equipping mechs and then using them in turn based combat to get more ressources to fund better mechs. It's not bad. Might not be enough strategy for you. Although it is confusing since you don't want 4x either.

Pandora is a Alpha Centauri remake or successor, from what I saw it's pretty good.

Hrrm Pretty sure it's more combat focused but I cannot be 100% certain. I have been wanting to try it myself :D but don't have the spare cash at the moment.

I've played in this a couple of years ago, nice game, but still it is tactical, not strategy.

I'm rather looking for something like titles I've mentioned at the beginning. 4X titles have in most cases really simplified battles (and for me battles are one of the most important things, that I like in games like Eador or Heroes of Might & Magic) and quite complex economy. I prefer inverted proportions :) (war and battles > economy [but it is still present]

{And I really like the cRPG elements in Eador or Age of Wonders, but probably I won't find the game, which would fill also this criterion :P)

Pity, that most of these Slytherine titles don't have demo versions, and they've got quite exorbitant prices :(

Well, Eador is a pretty extraordinary game, it is my favourite in my 25 year "career". I wish there was something like it in scifi and any other scenario...

Uhm, so how about Fallen Haven? There you build a city and then have turn based battles in it or the neighbor cities, not much economy or city building, but lots of fighting. The sequel is called Liberation Day.

I totally agree, Eador is really unique, even with all of these fantasy strategies that was made before (and after it), I must admit that I've never played in something like this before

That can be the title I'm looking for!

I think that I'll try this one.

http://www.mobygames.com/game/final-liberation-warhammer-epic-40000 maybe? Not sure if it's still possible to get it anywhere though, other than the shady abandonware sites and maybe eBay.

I'd recommend you WH40K Dawn of War (the 1st one); it's technically an RTS, but you can pause the game whenever you like and issue orders to your units, so you can play in a pleasant non-frantic way. It is the best strategy sci-fi game for me, and although there is base building and all, there is no proper economy: you're awarded requisition points for taking strategic locations.

And it is still NOT HERE! you hear me GOG??? I am angry! (well, not really...)
@mecirt - I played in Final Liberation a couple of years ago, and to be honest, I've never liked it. While I really like Chaos Gate and well, I accept Rites of War, I never was too fond on Final Liberation

@svmariscal - that's the problem, there is plenty of good sci-fi RTS, like old Starcraft or Dawn of War series, (I've played in both of them - in case of Dawn of War I've played in every add-on), but there is not too much turn-based strategies in sci-fi theme, similar to the Hom&M, AoW or Eador (ok, I know, the last one is totally unique ;)).
Awesome question, I realized I want to play this as well, and I remembered I had Smugglers V! If you're looking for a Civ type interface/map, you're not going to get that here, but here's a useful list I found:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chronology_of_4X_video_games

Out of all of those, I think Endless Space is closest to what you want. But I am intrigued about the 4X mode of Wing Commander Armada, if someone can comment about this, that would be awesome.

e: fyi, smugglers V and wing commander are both on GOG.
