... Aren't they a US magazine?

"I used to be part of the community, now I'm just [insert your nationality here]"

But yes, that's the name of the game these days. Global competitions are restricted to U.S. only...

How the hell do they have US-exclusive contests then?
And why?
The PC Gamer website is for both the US and UK magazines.

Both actually. There is a PC gamer UK and a PC gamer US. The US one makes competitions for the US and the UK one makes them for UK or rarely worldwide.

Yeah, it started life this side of the pond, but it must be said that the US version seems a lot better at bringing in the competitions.

because there's nothing else in the world except the US? :3
Also, anyone else hate how prices are low in the us and american companies earn top money from european sales? I F'kin hate it when I see US prices for everything.

Doesn't change the fact they are two seperate entities. US PC Gamer cares about it's US readership so they keep the competitions flowing. US is much more giveaway friendly than anywhere else in the world you should know this so it's much easier for them to get these deals than the UK one can.

I had the opportunity to read both versions and UK is the best. Best reviews, brutally honest opinion, read rock paper shotgun to get the picture

It comes down to the same reason Impulse only really support North America. US companies are far more keen to support the home territory for many reasons (Tax being one of them). It's highly likely they want to make competitions global but the publishers probably say hell no. They are in a much worse position than even Stardock are because these are freebies, there is no negotiation. It probably boils down to competitons for North America or no competitions at all.

Really the thread title should say I'm not feeling the love, games publishers.

There are legal reasons that make it almost impossible for US companies to offer worldwide giveaways, which is why almost no US companies ever do it. It's not because they only care about US readership.

More info.

Yup.

Shame this has to be explained somewhere on the internet every hour or so.
Yeah, contests will be regional, it's a shame they are focussing on the US as their region, but then that's the big market.

Thankyou for the thread, gave me a reminder to look up how the Future Publishing monopoly is coming along. Very sweetly by the looks of it. However with a cursory look I couldn't see any links to a US firm. I'm sure I heard of one involved, anyone know?

Possibly the US side of the site/mag started giving away more stuff and the UK side has yet to catch up, making it appear to be imbalanced? Or maybe UK giveaways are being decreased for some reason?

It's pretty much this, you can run afoul of gambling laws in many countries with giveaways.
