Hexagons forever!

Battle Worlds: Kronos, a deep turn-based strategy game with very modern looks paired with old-school mechanics and hex-based presentaion, is available 50% off on GOG.com, for Windows and Mac OS X. That's $14.99 for the next 24 hours.

If you're an old-time military strategy gamer, Battle Worlds: Kronos will bring back many of your fondest memories. The playfield alone, divided into countless orderly hexagons, looks irresistibly familiar. Time-proven turn based mechanics allows for careful planning and provides room for the cleverest of stratagems. We're not big on the term "spiritual successor", as it is widely overused by modern game designers, but this is the spiritual successor to the classic Battle Isle series, if we've ever seen one. In this ambitious title, two single-player campaigns provide up to 30 hours of challenge and satisfaction, further extended by special maps and--of course--multiplayer modes, including the evergreen hot-seat option. Pair that with visuals absolutely perfect for a mid-range Sci-Fi strategy game, and what you get is a title no armchair general could possibly resist.

Bring order to the chaotic and dark times of the succession wars and lead humanity to victory--well, a part of humanity at least--in Battle Worlds: Kronos, for only $14.99 on GOG.com. The Indie Gem Promo offer lasts until Thursday, February 6, at 10:59AM GMT.

P1na: weeell... It's turn based, for startes, so I'm thinking no.
heh, I should've probably seen it in the game card :D but the video looked quite dynamic... my fault :)

JaqFrost: I'm bad at explaining it. Basically, shooting and getting shot nets the unit xp and you can upgrade said unit twice during the mission. For instance, you get improved armor and range. For the next mission, you can then choose to bring along a unit (or however many you have points enough to purchase) that already has these abilities. I hope that makes more sense.

What kind of sandwich is it?
Sounds Ok. And it will be an "amigo bom-bom" (no idea why the random Spanish) which has somewhat of a bolognese sauce, anchovies, some kind of cheese (don't know enough Flemish to know what kind) and originally tabasco, but I ask it without because I don't like spicy stuff. And that's about the only warm sandwich I can get here, Belgium sucks on the sandwich department.

JudasIscariot: My playstyle is a bit different as I tend to be more of a "cannon fodder" style general in strategies, which means I am real bad at those games :/
Well, as long as we have games for both types, no problem there.
Great promo. Kronos reminds me KKND.
How long is it since release? 4 months

This soon price drop might be a hint that so far sales are a bit disappointing because either the popularity of the game isn't that high (not enough sex appeal) or the initial price was asking for too much.

I bought it closely to release but only out of sympathy. I think this price here during the sale is close to a good deal. Maybe now player numbers will soar.

TBS games were always very niche, no matter how pretty you make them. They lack the "fast" combat of an RTS which rules out about more casual strategy gamers, and they lack the personal feel of a party-based/tactical RPG.

Either way I hope King makes a sequel to this, they still have plenty of potential TBS gamers who would contribute to another Kickstarter (the kickstarter for this game raised over 100,000 USD).

I can tell you no self-respecting spaniard would ever eat that :-p If you want to try a true spanish sandwich, here's the recipe for a "serranito": french bread/baguette (not really, but close), pork loin steak, sliced fresh tomato, whole (not sliced) fried green peppers (the not-spicy ones, spanish food is NOT spicy), and dry cured ham.

And as to not derail this thread further into the cooking channel, here's a question about the game: for someone who plays very casually and is not very fond of long campaigns, how good/how many are the one-off scenarios?

JaqFrost: Splattercat has a partial let's play of the game if you want to check out the mechanics.
I'd never really paid attention to this game before, but I just watched this and a couple other videos of it, and it looks surprisingly good. Wishlisted for now.

I've never into the whole "jamón serrano" thing. I personally would much rather have a... how do you guys call it? Pepito de ternera? With a few Tolosan sweet red peppers. That's nice. However, my current hostel has no kitchen, the other sandwich options are even worse, and the only other food stablishment near my office is a frituur. And I can't be having fries every day, now can I? So yeah, I do what I can while in Belgium.

There are two campaigns in the game, consisting of maybe 10 missions each, but the missions get longer the further in you get. I think you got 'Fast Thinker' achievement for mission 4 if you managed to complete it within 50 turns.
Question.

On the scale of advance wars to something like Panzer General. Where is it? I kind of want a serious sort of advance wars game and not something like panzer general where I have to keep X units alive and have to finish a scenario on X number of turns. Looks pretty tempting.

I reckon whoever is behind this promo hates me. Payday is not until tomorrow night here and they also release the banner saga here. :(

Yes, that's a small veal sandwich.
the other sandwich options are even worse
Wow, that must be a dreadful sight indeed :-P

Well, that kind of settles it about the campaigns; nowadays I rarely have the time or patience for a months-long ongoing campaign. So, is the game worth it just for the single scenarios?
Quite the appealing promo price. I bought it on day one just because I really liked the original Battle Isle series on the Amiga. But this is a good reminder for me to push Kronos up the backlog queue. :)
Too bad I suck beyond suck at TBS; she's a beauty looking game.
For those who don't know if they should buy the game - you can download a playable demo version:

Although it wasn´t such a good deal after all. Backers got the digital version for $20 and didn`t know how good the game will be. Customers now get the same game for $15 in this sale but didn`t have to pay until now, get a patched version and can study reviews before buying. Backing of this project was more like donating so that the project really comes alive.
