xyem: I've just had another idea, but it could be (reasonably) regarded as a privacy violation. I'm not sure if I'd want to see it implemented, but it could really help with the current situation.

If GOG would display the total number of games directly purchased by the account holder (i.e. not freebies or gifts) then it would make it really obvious who is just here to get free stuff or scam people.
A nice idea. They could make a feature that if you type a certain string of characters, like "[#Purchases]" or something, the forum/PM system will turn it into a rainbow colored (so it can't be faked with normal text) games purchased integer, so the privacy wouldn't be an issue if you didn't type that string.
They'll never do it, but a man can dream. :p

That would certainly be usefull, but in my opinon only if it's an optional feature (opt in), then traders and gifters could ask those they trade with or want to gift to to activate the option. Anybody else wouldn't have to use the feature unless they want to.

There's a problem with this idea that has nothing to do with privacy. Take a look at the link

http://www.gog.com/en/forum/general/classifieds/post3836

And I'm in the same boat, even though I haven't previously written about it in the forum. There are plenty of people that only use prepaid cards for online transactions. We can't buy GOG games ourselves so we depend on trading for them.

Indeed, that could be a problem.

But it isn't the be-all-and-and-all of trading, it's just an indicator. If you have no purchased games, I would just ask you to trade yours first. And that's only without any other information at all.

gameon: i'm sure i also read that Sirprimalform was banned from some other forum for something trivial.
Yeah, it was the Frictional Games forum. It turns out that the first reply to a thread I posted there was spam and the volunteer mod apparently can't use a mouse properly and delete-banned my post. That's their story anyway, I've been unbanned now. -_-;

That does sound like a likely story though. It is not uncommon for things like "reply" & "remove/(ban)" to be stupidly close to each other (like right next to each other), so it is quite easy to click on the wrong thing by mistake.

No, it's not that they got ban instead of reply, it's that the banned the wrong post. They were off by a whole post!

As someone who was moderator few times, all I can say is - It happens. It's usually resolved within few minutes though.

Nah, they didn't notice and went on their merry way. Took an email to the admins and a few days to fix. :P

It happens. Especially on big boards.

If it makes you feel better I've been banned for "discussion of ad blocking software" on ZetaBoards resource forum. Fun fact is that the guy who opened the topic was one of their moderators.

Hi, everyone!
I rarely post on public forum. So I haven't been impersonated. Yet, now, that my nick was posted
on classifieds, it can be a great target for scamming.
If anyone with a similar nickname will PM you, this is the post to send a PM back to me. Don't do it in
a direct PM conversation! I have traded with many people. I can always provide you a list.
Have a great day, everyone!

These scammers just keep on coming out of the woodwork, don't they?

I did say I'd put something on my website that would help mitigate this. It's in very raw form, but will become more slick. I really could do with a few people trying it out and leaving a comment in the forum.

I can assure you he's a good trader, I made a trade with him a month ago without a problem.
