GameRager: Problem is MADD worries more about stiffer jailtime all the time for such issues instead of battling the issue with pre-emptive tech and counseling for such individuals.

hedwards: That's my understanding of it. You know that an organization has veered off course when the original found deserts the organization for becoming too radical.

The MADD I used to support was about raising awareness and lowering the incidents of drunken driving. I don't know many people that can argue with that goal, but stiffer jail sentences are at best a means to an end. Bypassing effective means for increased sentences which may or may not correct the behavior makes no sense at all.
It's as bad as putting kids(young adults) in jail for smoking a few joints......it serves to do nothing to deter them, is used mostly to fill the prisons with cheap labor and push voter/lobbyist agendas & collect fines, and is a mostly victimless "crime".

I've got mixed feelings about pot, but for small amounts it makes no sense to prosecute.

Back in college, my school had a deal with the local prosecutor's office to handle first offenses on campus internally, and not refer them over to the prosecutors office until the second offense. It was a problem because of the sheer number and the ability of the prosecutors office to handle the volume of minor offenses.

Looking the other way wasn't an option just due to the fact that fatal overdoses typically involve people that were already on the radar from the campus police.

During my time at college, you'd smell pot pretty much everywhere, but apart from one incident involving bad shrooms and another where a classmates roomated ODed on ludes, there weren't many serious drug related problems on campus.
Pot should be regulated like cigarettes, only to adults but not as unlimited like cigarettes maybe limited like Methamphetamine-laced medicines are via using your state ID to so much per month. This would bring in tax money for gov't and cut back on illegal sellers being used as well, and also cut back on the number of minor crime cons in prisons.

No way, smoking pot would no longer be edgy. What would be the point of my smoke rings that spell out FUCK THE MAN.

Um, fucking the man by doing other drugs perhaps?

(Disclaimer: I am in NO WAY advocating the usage of such choice drugs as PCP, Opium, et al.)

What?! PCP is how I get out of bed in the morning. It just doesn't look as cool on campus.
Is it true that this douchebag is alive and all of this was just another joke? Pretty lame, as lame as their movies.
CNN reports that the police say he was driving between 132 and 140 mph (212 - 225 kp/h) at the time of the crash and his blood alcohol concentration was 0.196%, which is more than twice the legal state limit (0.08).

I'm sorry, but this just make it seem he and his friend died as a result of stupid and irresponsible behavior on his part -- doing what he did for a living, he must have known all to well how alcohol diminishes one's reflexes and been very familiar with the dangers of high speed driving. Yet not only did he decide to get behind the wheel intoxicated, but he was actually driving at ridiculous, thrill-seeking speeds... Makes it hard for me to feel sorry for him.

A few sites are reporting it was a stunt, but we don't know for sure yet. If so that's just messed up.

I'm pretty sure it's been confirmed that it's not a stunt. CNN and other news outlets wouldn't go along and report these kind of details if it was -- he's dead.
TMZ reported he is dead so he is dead.

Do we have further verification on this decomposition exposition?
