I'm having the kickstarter problem lately. I'm only pledging minimal amount to get the game, but it's still too much.

And Republique is ending today ...

SimonG: Kickstarter actually managed to blow my gaming budget. This hasn't happened for a long time. Now I'm even downsizing on GOGs!
Yeah IKR.
Haven't pledged to any due to being broke (really, is this gonna be the new trend where you pay 100$ for a boxed version?), for the fear of the games actually stinking in the end, and not seeing the actual purpose of doing a fancy preorder for something I have no idea about. If the games end up being done and released, I'll have no trouble to buy the final product at the moment it's released - or do you think the <80k people who pledge in Kickstarters are the only ones who will buy the game?

On Kickstarter probably so, which sucks, because I can't friggin' resist those suckers. I'm limiting myself to adventure games only (canceling that Wasteland 2 pledge was heartbreaking) but that's not really helping, since every time one ends, another one pops up (now they even don't wait for the 'end' part, somebody stop them!).
Bye bye, EU scholarship, nice knowing ya!

The idea (not to mention the pledge levels for anything more than the bare minimum) seems still pretty foreign/costly to many people, I think there'll be enough post-KS buyers. Especially if some of the games manage to get local retail releases (wonder if that'll be happening at all).

Kickstarter isn't a place for pre-orders. And the amount people pay on Kickstarter hardly ever equals the amount of money they would pay for the game.

I certainly wouldn't pay 150$ for Wasteland or Shadowrun to buy the game. But I am cetainly giving them the money to make the game. And a kind of a thank you for all the joy they already gave me.

That concept doesn't appeal to everyone, but it also doesn't want to. If you can't get behind the idea of a kickstarter, then it is simply not for you. Nobody has to use kickstarter.

Crassmaster: There's only so much disposable income out there, and we have to be getting pretty close to the saturation point. Sure, the big name projects will do fine, but I think the real indie stuff is going to start to struggle.
So far the real indie stuff has only gained from this. There are a lot more people on Kickstarter than there were before the big name projects. Quite a few indies are getting hundreds of thousands, which would have been impossible before. Even the smaller ones have much more of a chance of success.

I agree that people's wallets are getting stretched, but I think this will mainly affect those paying lots of money for big projects. Even if many people will stop pledging or lower their pledges, there are still tons more people on Kickstarter than there were before, and this has a positive effect on all projects.

And yes, I'm in the same boat. The money I spent on Kickstarter + Games so far this year has already passed my entire spending on games last year (which I was thinking to cut down). Kickstarter and Steam Gifts are to blame.
