I'm late for that one, and I think for Morrowind too... So, I'll say Gothic 2. Truly epic for me, love that game.
And Gothic (the first one) too!
Sid Meier's Civilization (iv preferably) I mean you can't get much more epic than that LOL. If you want storyline though I'm a big fan of Tales of Vesperia (Xbox 360/PS3) The Longest Journey, Elder Scrolls Oblivion/Skyrim, The Witcher 2, Lost Odyssey (Xbox 360/PS3), Grand Theft Auto IV, Planescape Torment, Assassin's Creed series, Total War series, Wing Commander Prophecy.
Gears of War, StarCraft 2, Assassin's Creed and sequels, Mass Effect series all spring to mind.

If you're looking for "whoa, cinematic eye candy" I suggest going with a shooter of some kind.
Bumiping for more tips ;)
Gothic (1 & 2)
Mass Effect series
Knights of the Old Republic (Kotor ... hope we can find it soon on gog :D)

Well, the US server is gone now, but Lineage 1.... You could spend 20 hours leveling and earn 1% toward your next level.

And I'm not sure if this is true any more, but you die once and you'd lose 5% of that level, or 100 hours' worth of leveling time, and maybe drop your $3,000 sword that you worked 2 years to make for some lucky guy to pick up.
Psychonauts
I would have to say Xenogears. Starts off with a pretty standard story, which quickly transforms into something epic.
