grviper: Is there anything special about ME3 in particular being pirated?
avatar
thebum06: Not really, except the game is available for pirates before the actual release date as far as I'm aware.

edit:
You mean excuse
avatar
thebum06: In some cases, yes. But origin is rather restrictive on what countries it wants to sell to, so some countries have no other options than piracy.
People (who can't buy it) don't have to play it though, I mean it's not something like food or water. :p
Put me on the disgruntled Steam user list. I got Mass Effect 2 through Steam and I'm not going to another service to get the third. We'll see how I end up playing the game.
I don't mind getting ME3 EVENTUALLY on Origin. What I will probably mind is that it is likely that the DLC will be a pain in the ass to get and install, like it was for Mass Effect 1, 2, and Dragon Age 1.

Also, lack of ludicrous discounts.

It is very silly that the DLC for the previous Bioware games is a pain in the ass for paying customers, and is very easy to install and apply painlessly and effortlessly for pirates.

Log into origin using the same details you used for your EA login and you'll magicly have your ME2

EA DLC has discounts but it's done by discounting the points not the points cost of the DLC

Neat, thanks for the heads up.

pretty much all EA games with a key can be moved onto origin and if you had to log into your origin account in game EA has been automatically adding it to origin for people as a time saver. For those that don't (ME1 for example) you can just add the CD key either through origin or if that fails through the EA websites redeem code page.

Yeah, I know, I was mainly referring to origin store discounts themselves, since they tend to be less significant than steam's. And when they ARE significant, they tend to not be available in my region.
And when they actually are, they leave a sour taste since they are either not as good as advertised (las tone was for the carnival thing. They said it was older games for 5 mxn, which would be ludicrously good. They lied, instead it was 89 pesos, which is over 5 USD), or just not significant (why yes, I would like Bulletstorm at half price which is still OVER THE PRICE IT GETS IN EVERY OTHER digital distribution site. Or something like that).

wodmarach: However the origin DRM is proving effective in limiting day1 piracy which is the only point of DRM really
It is my belief that DRM is there to please the investors. When they ask "What do you do to combat piracy" you can say "We use this system developed by those guys, which makes it harder to copy the game". Everyone who knows a bit about games knows how easy it is to crack a game (and anyone who has had to deal with something like StarForce knows how the pirate groups have helped you play your legally owned games).

grynn: One thing for sure, It's gonna be pirated by lots of Steam fanboys (or lovers?) as it's not coming to Steam. I also like Steam, but I can use any other client, even Capsule or GFWL when I need to. It's a stupid reason to pirate anything imho.
After deliberately banging my head on my desk several times I'm still not getting this. You're saying people who normally buy games legally will pirate it because it isn't on their favourite distribution portal?

Poppycock!

Isn't this a No-DRM stronghold? I can't count the number of times I've seen people mention they will pirate a game because it's Steamworks or a DRM they don't like :)

Take a look at Steam forums and you'll see the hatred turning legit users into pirates.

Well, I can understand the anti-DRM guys, but these Steam dudes have been already using a DRM named Steam. :D

I don't mean to be rude but I think you misunderstand the term "fanboy"

I don't know if there is another definition of the gamers who won't buy/play a game if it's not on Steam.

Well, I'd have to pirate it (if I wanted the game, I mean) not out of anger, but for other reasons.

Steam lets me buy games with my US credit card. Origin doesn't, and instead charges me a bit more because of my location. And in another currency.

I don't -mind- Origin, I just hate their stupid region / IP locks.

I don't know if there's another definition of the term pure conjecture.

But anyway...I'm puzzled as to what advantage there would be to pirating a non-steam game over buying it(except the obvious) Paid or pirated, it's still not on Steam. You believe there are actually people who stamp their feet in protest if a game isn't on Steam and pirate the game as a form of vengeance? Man that's venomous.

I understand this, but you wouldn't be doing it out of fanboism so the circumstances are different I think.
