So, what do you think? Does the current industry need saving? Is the storytelling good in new games?

I would certainly hope that ND could make a difference and others would actually realize, that games need more than pretty graphics. The problem these days is the "mainstream" gamer, who only buys the new installation of CoD (which isn't even that "new, since there's no need to update. It will sell nevertheless).

I would love to see more of these projects implode, just like L. A. Noire.

The obvious "we know better" attitude lead better studios in the past to a hasty downfall.
They made a nice trilogy of games, but they are nowhere near the powerhouses they think they are.

I see a game coming up, with a ridiculous budget, failing to meet demands and a studio that then is immediately dissolved.

They're not going to change the industry in any way by releasing a game exclusive for one console. It's not going to happen.

I have nothing against initiatives, but their effectiveness is questionable. Still, better storytelling might push the medium forward, but you know, some games just can't work to their best potential if they force storyline down their neck. Super Mario is a nice example, if a bit dated.

But I support this, only if it meant a few more writers can find a job in the industry. Good ones, I hope.

Why you want to see them fail? Every dissolved studio means that more people are unemployed. It's not fun to be out of work :/

As far as what people want video games are no different than movies.

Most people want something they can pickup and play without giving much if any thought.

I'm sure this is no different than any other form of entertainment throughout history.

As long as there's a niche of people out there that want games with involving stories then there will be such games but it will always be a niche.

Well if they want to change the industry with regards to story-telling, maybe they should get their inspiration elsewhere.

This looks like a Hollywood film to me, like Uncharted. Not that that's a bad thing, but is it really what's going to "change the industry"? I think not.

There's something called realistic expectations. But I guess that does not seem like such a good idea when you are trying to hype a newly revealed product.

Based on what? It doesn't have to be a change that's huge and commonplace, but I call bullshit that a console exclusive can't change the industry "in any way"

If people want to change the industry, the first thing they should do is allow people who want to pay for games to do so (GOG is the only one I've found that does).

Until that happens, the rest is meaningless.

Naughty Dog is a great developer. I don't really think they change the industry but they might make a damn good effort.

Don't get me wrong, I am looking forward to this game as a fan of some of their previous games.

I just think such a bold claim needs to be received with some criticism when you consider that Naughty Dog have been on the forefront in the current trend of story-telling in video games, which is to ape Hollywood as much as possible.

Maybe they will do it even better this time, but it's hardly going to change the industry, rather it's going to help keep it stuck in the same routine if this is a commercially and critically succesful release.

Naughty Dog has my full support. I'm not going to say that I'll buy it without knowing more about game play but each series they have made in the past (that I can recall) I have loved. They'll continue to get my support if they make games that interest me!No. It's doing well.Yes, in enough games that I'm pleased. If I'm a little concerned then I'll go find an indie game that delivers what I need.

Talking about changing the industry is a noble goal, even if the way he phrases it isn't that eloquent. They are trying to lead by example, which is the best way to do it. If even one other developer takes note and makes a shift toward the better then it's worth their energy.
