elflegend: I mean, I enjoy the female form as much as the next man, but it's getting a little predictable...

Don't say that! They might use a near-naked man next time... I've seen movies about university and I don't know if I could take any more of that imagery.

the king's Bounty the legend. that is not a a human female my friend. That is a Succubus.
She would love nothing more then to suck the life out of you.

I'm cool with that.
This is cool and all, but when are we gonna get some OLD games?

I've added this to my wish list, but agree. It's a good title, but it has been a while since we had some truly old classics. If only I had some Infinity Engine to take with me on my summer holidays...
Ugh, what a buttugly game. (like the new Kings's bounty)
Along with the setting which seems not mediocre, but awful, it probably has no atmosphere that I would like.
Tolkien inspiration is really good if it is done really good, and with a lot of originality, like Age of Wonders. If it is done bad it just lessens the concepts it uses. Orcs and elves are not necessarily bad, but there are way too many of them.
Fantasy in games, as well as in literature should be the most open and possible of settings, but instead it is often a haven for the uninspired.
I've never read anything good about it's gameplay either.
Of course there is always going to be someone that will enjoy it and that is good.
Luckily there are many other good turn-based fantasy games around.

Yes it is silly. There is a time and place for everything. The promo picture makes it look like a porn game. While there is nothing wrong with a porn game in itself, a porn game is not a good turn-based fantasy game.

Narwhal: Battle for Wesnoth is great. I prefered it over Fantasy Wars but YMMV. I understand people not liking the "lucky" part.
As far as I am concerned for "luck", it is a very old debate but you have to manage luck in Battle for Wesnoth : prepare escape routes and / or reserve units in case you are unlucky for instance, and don't throw you super elite troops alone. Overall, luck evens out. As such, I find it more strategical than many other games where you must just be better tactically to win the skirmishes as they come.
BfW is one of the very rare games in which I always keep a reserve. I don't need a reserve in PG or FW, I know too accurately the outcomes of a battle.

yeah but especially in multiplayer even someone that's loosing badly making a lot of errors can turn out winner if you get a very unlucky turn with a lot of missed attacks, he can evolve his almost dead units and pwn the shit out of your ones in his turn.
That units level up thing rely too much on luck, especially in servers with fast growing experience settings.
This game looks rather fun; I will have to check into it a bit more and then decide.

Yeah I agree .. like " Fantasy General " maybe ... please GOG .. pretty please ? :)

Sorry for derailing the thread even more, but could someone tell me (maybe a native English speaker?) how this entity has become a "succubus"? I know it's from the Latin words sub+cubo, meaning "lie/sleep under", but it should be "succuba", being a female demon, no? How did it get its male (-us) ending?
It was a medieval latin coining based on the already extant 'incubus', the idea being I think that a demon doesn't really have a gender, but that it assumes a female form.

Thanks, so that's why; I knew "incubus" was the male form (which seems to have survived quite well; in Italian, "nightmare" is "incubo"), but I didn't know it had such an effect on the female variant.

Zeewolf: Thank you! Actually I think I have read this before, so I stand corrected. I often stop by gamer.no as I find it very informative and of good quality ;-)
I do disagree though, that we as fans of turn-based strategy games should support every big title, even though they have been few and far between lately. I don't think TBS will die anytime in the near future, there are enough passionate fans of this genre around still.
I do think that we should vote with our wallets when something great comes up.
